I'm with Eric again. For me, I'd rather have NO patch bay than a patch bay with intermittents. I've not tried the Samson, but I have enough experience with TRS plugs and jacks that I know I don't want to rely on them. I hate tracking down problems. With a decently implemented TT bay, I've rarely had problems. Can't say never, but I can count them on less than one hand. And that after thousands of studio hours. It's not about some some elitist anti cheap drama. It's quite simply about reliability. They don't SOUND any different. Except when there's a problem. my time is valuable. The wire costs are the same, the interfacing costs are higher on implementing a TT bay, the actual bay cost might be MARGINALLY more expensive with a used TT bay vs. new TRS bay. Like Eric said, these bays are available dirt cheap... 5 second Ebay search. $75 www.ebay.com/itm/ADC-96-point-TT-Patch-Bay-1/324100028628?hash=item4b75ddf8d4:g:fEsAAOSwoVteaQVT

I’ve owned the Samson for 3 years with zero problems and no time lost. And I love the front panel switchability. It’s also been my experience that a high price tag does not always equal reliability. I recently had a Beyer 201 die on me—it’s quality didn’t guarantee its reliability. Yes TT used bays can be had cheap. The patch cables are super pricey though. I still think a TT set up for a few synths is overkill.

$7.25 is astronomically more expensive than what I pay for my TRS patch cables.

Samson S-Patch is actually solid. First TRS bay I’ve ever owned that doesn’t have issues. I have 240 channels using all Samsons. Not ideal for many, but what I chose for myself (project studio for my own music only).

TT patchbay is "something to upgrade to one day" for me.
My setup changes so often it wouldn't make sense at all for me to commit to a project like this.
Light duty use here, years of service from Samson bays.
It would be nice to be settled enough for a heavy duty patch bay.

We use 5 of the Redco patchbays. I love them! Depending on the size of TT connector you get on the patch cables, it can be tight plugging them in side by side on the front. It helps sometimes to plug both TTs in simultaneously, if that makes sense. It can also be tedious connecting all the Dsubs in the back as they are tight together, but that's the price you pay for 96 points in a single rack space. As a note, I discovered I prefer db25 connectors that tighten with thumbscrews as opposed to squeezing a screwdriver in the tight quarters.

My setup changes so often it wouldn't make sense at all for me to commit to a project like this. I hear ya. I've built so many patch bays that I've come up with a scenario that allows me to swap out gear interchangeably. 576 connections on this setup. 24 thumb screw cables. Done. (for me, it beats trying to find one out of 576 cables that's intermittent or unplugged or part way in....) After building, rebuilding, reconfiguring, etc. a half dozen bays, I set up this one to be future proof. (I think anyways....). Overkill some might say.... Perhaps. But maybe not. Attachments:
