So I pay federal taxes, state taxes, sales tax reverb tax, PayPal tax, tax on the internet service I use to see that I’m being taxed and taxes on the sandwich I’m eating when I push the button. The founding fathers would be dumping tea in the harbor right now. the Founding Fathers would probably be so pissed that we have a standing federal army that they’d never even hear you well enough to shit themselves when you try to explain PayPal. This ^ !!!

Your right, except what has really changed is taxes. I know only the buyer pays it, but being that we all buy and sell, I'm looking at it as the cost of being in this gear-lusting game. So its more like 13% for Reverb, and 23% for eBay. Both super high if you ask me! When your talking a STA-Level or some piece of worthwhile professional gear, thats getting pretty ridiculous. I've had good and bad experiences with both eBay and Reverb. At the end of the day it usually comes down to the person you are doing the transaction with. If they are a complete a-hole you are gonna have a pretty bad expirience either way. Remember you were always supposed to be paying sales taxes on out of state purchases on your state income tax form. All that changed is that the Supreme Court ruling said large sellers needed to collect these taxes. Not that anybody theoretically paid the sales tax on out of state purchases. Now before anybody says they shouldn’t have to pay sales tax on purchases of used items, ever registered a used car? They require you pay sales tax based on the purchase price! A sales tax is a. Tax on goods and services regardless the condition of those goods. I've never paid sales tax on a used car from a private seller. Ever. Never been asked. I think it must be a state thing.

But let's say we let initial sales taxes go. Because INITIALLY sales taxes were only applicable to the purchase and sale of NEW goods and then governments figured out they could tax over and over again every time an item was sold used. Most of the sales on the Verb are used. And sales taxes should NOT be applicable. But <sigh> we have to support the billionaires club/the oligarchy.

It would be helpful if Reverb and other sites, had different areas for new vs used so decisions and rules were clearer.
I think all these sales sites (Reverb, ebay) are now scrambling to grab as much dough as possible, and play the overnight, invest your money to make money for the business.
For example, Paypal always encourages you to keep money in your account while paying you zero interest, very naive to think your money is actually in your account.

The alternative was having corporations be invincible legal juggernauts that could not be sued or charged with crimes, so corporate personhood was probably the preferable and least harmful outcome.

Corporations were successfully sued by individuals prior to Citizens United, which is what I’m assuming lpedrum is referring to...

Corporations being "people" is as laughable as "money" being allowed to count as "speech". I shouldn't be allowed to shout louder just because I have more money.
This will be my last "political" post here. I don't want to sink in to the quagmire.

Er, no. The alternative would be having the people who own and operate those corporations being legally liable for their criminal acts. Which would not be a bad think IMO.

I just went out into the woods behind the house, picked some wild ramps, made a nice pesto out of it. I can get into NYC in about 40 mins to play a gig, I’m at the beach in under an hour to surf, I’ve got endless hiking and dirt bike trails. Yeah NJ sucks stay away! 😁

Of course if you were a communist you'd be arguing that property is theft.
Both views are equally nonsensical.
Do you enjoy being able to drive on public roads? Have public fire and police departments to protect your property and person? Send your children to school? Etc, etc?
Taxes are a necessity in any society beyond the level of the local village.

What's a "wild ramp"? Never mind, looked it up. They taste good but make you smell bad.

Do a quick search online. Best described as a wild leek. Tastes like a cross between an onion and garlic - absolutely amazing flavor profile, they only come out in the spring time and you’ve got to be careful to only take about 5% of what you see to keep them coming back year to year. I’m not sure if they are out west or not, but you can find them all over the east if you know where to look. Sort of like morel mushrooms etc

I've been able to sell any "sit at home and fiddle with it" keyboards etc in hours for more than i got it used on reverb, so there are a lot of people at home wanting to jam.

Going one step further, I always look at whether to get an SM7b this month, and i always push it to next month. I just did my regular check, and lo and behold, there are no sm7bs available. I think everyone and their mother are doing home broadcasts, and saw Dave Matthews (and others) early on with the SM7b. That'll sell a lot of mics. Only one available for almost 700 bucks on reverb, no used at all. Ha!

I'm a Vic Firth endorser and got this email today. I know some folks are saying that gear sales are better than ever. That doesn't seem to be the case with Zildjian/Vic Firth. These all solid, reputable companies that were in good shape prior to Covid. I suspect that as the pandemic continues into the fall that many gear manufacturers will need to reorganize too. Meanwhile if you have the dough to buy cymbals or drumsticks this would be a good time to do so!
I am writing to let you know about the reorganization of the company which took place earlier this week. This past Tuesday, we announced the biggest Lay Off in the company’s history. Every department throughout the company was impacted. In terms of Artist Relations, this meant the elimination of three positions in the U.S. Sadly, we said good bye to .............. All of whom were long standing, highly respected employees who performed their Artist Relations duties at the highest level in our industry. What made them special is that they truly cared about people and had a passion for their work. So, this is a personal loss for all of us here at Zildjian. As professional musicians, you know only too well how the Pandemic has impacted ALL of us in the Music Industry. Live performances have been discontinued as we all wait for a vaccine for this virus. In addition, musical instrument sales to amateur musicians have dramatically declined due to the economic impact resulting from an out-of-control virus. The downturn has negatively impacted our sales and profits to the point where we needed to reorganize the company for both short- and long-term success. .....None of these people would ever have been let go had it not been for the economic situation caused by the Coronavirus. We are hopeful that the economy will start to come back by the end of 2021, and at that time, we will look at restoring the staffing in Artist Relations.
