Hey Wiring gurus !?
I need to make a patch cable from 1/8th inch male to stereo xlr Male for interfacing the Iphone to powered speakers. Forgive my ignorance as I just started making cable a while back but not ever a stereo cable. My web searches came up inconclusive. Your guidance Please.

For the 1/8th, it's TIP=left, RING=Right, SLEEVE=Ground. Wire the 1/8 tip to pin 2 of your left XLR. Ground pins 1 and 3. Wire the ring of your 1/8 to pin 2 of your right XLR. Ground pins 1 and 3.
You can't make a balanced connection without creating a splitter of some type. This will maintain an unbalanced connection but I don't think you'll notice much going into powered speakers.

Guys, why not use direct boxes to convert unbalanced -10dbv to +4dbu? You can use a simple stereo to dual mono splitter and then run a 1/4" cable from each output to a DI box into XLR inputs.
This is what I do and it is definitely improves audio quality.

Besides, it's going to be medium impedance electronic inputs dictated by resistors anyway, so the only detriment would be level differences since the Iphone output will be able to drive much lower impedances meant for headphones.
