Everything that sounds great on that stupid NS10s seems to sound great I bite myself for this platitude but I made the experience that it's true.
One of my favorite Albums is Stings Mercury Falling. The mixes are breathtaking and they still sound breathtaking on that crappy bookshelf speakers.

That is beautifully produced. Damn. Is his vocal a little mid forward? Trying to gauge the Barefoots. I had thought that through two other sets of monitors...but didn’t think that with the small ATCs. Talking 2khz ish. Btw - not complaining about the mix. Holy shit that whole record is just superb.

I mean, it sounds like a nice, muscular Neumann, center-terminated vibe. I think it sounds perfect for the production/aesthetic. Really natural and warm.

Also - if I could surround myself in that genre with that kind of musicianship, I would be eternally happy. To me, Jazz is the most pure, fun thing to mix.

Other than that, they’re pretty stunning.

Nothing Like The Sun is in my top 10 albums of all time. The production on that album is just unbelievable...the mixes just ok IMO.

Damn. The finest of the 80s. Sorry it's 1996..... Yes. Pardon me. Most of her career was in the 80s. But that album was actually 1992. Remastered in 1996.

Nothing like the sun is 1987.
I listened to the first side this morning after seeing this. This is one that sounds better on vinyl. 50khz two track mastered for vinyl by Ludwig to double records (so 3 tunes a side'ish) before he stopped cutting. Lovely. I always thought the CD sounded inferior to Dream of the Blue Turtles AND Soul Cages after...but, on vinyl, it's lovely sounding. Revived that album for me.

I'm A/B'ing Atomic SixTens vs Amphion One15's right now. I've got Robert Plant/Allison Krauss 'Raising Sand' album pulled up. I think the mixes on this one sound killer.

Mix wise, I think Arabella by Arctic Monkeys is a great example of flawless modern rock mixing. Bombtrack by rage against the machine is also a go-to to listen to things on. Also like Graceland by Paul Simon.

That SADE album is the sound of a Harrison MR-3 Console. Neumann mics, lexicon, etc. The sound of the 80's I love the sound of my rebuilt Harrison Mr-3.

Most of the Death Cab catalog, Nada Surf's Go, Taylor Swift's 1989, some early Ryan Adams, Cure's Friday I'm In Love, pretty much most of the late 70's early 80's music where they mostly just pulled the faders up (soft rock especially). Coldplay's first three records, Everything But The Girl's Walking Wounded
etc., etc.

If we're talking (early) 80s, Avalon has to be an example of the highest standards in all areas. Cheers, Ross

How are you separating things when you say a production is good, but the mix is poor? How are you rating a good mix?
BTW, I love a lot of the 80/90s stuff that Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake were involved with, without even knowing they were involved at first. Crowded House debut, Los Lobos Kiko, Richard Thompson Rumor & Sigh, Suzanne Vega 99.9
