So I went ahead and just bought the Pultec bundle and the 1176 bundle since they are $99 a pop, I've got a Blackstar ht-20 that's supposed to sell next week hopefully and I'm really leaning towards the Lexicon 224 and the Oceanway, but I still havn't figured out what my other choice will be. My mind tells me I should go for a delay, the most expensive plugins on UAD are the effects, and that's where I'm really lacking in my Plugs list. Since I've officially made the full move to PT11 and not looking back I need to figure out which delay will be the right choice. I like the RE-201, but I'm sort of backing off it a little because it's a little to gritty, so I'm going to demo a few more from them and see if I can find one that does what I want, I mean hell I can make a cleaner one sound gritty with sticking some saturation and eq behind it.
But the the MKII Pultec and 1176 were just too good to pass up at that price, and I only got 1 day of demo in before I knew I had to buy those. Really heads and shoulders above any other emu that I've ever used in those types of processors. I'm still really digging my slate VTM for tape, I like the Ampex and Studer, but I just keep gravitating to the VTM, and I liked the Fairchild MkII, but again, I still gravitate to my Slate versions. I definitely like the Fatso though, that's a tough decision as well, going for a delay or that fatso, but I still know I can put my Slate VBC stuff in it's place and achieve near the same effect, so I'm taking it out of my MUST have list of the 3 in the bundle offer.
Any ideas on what delay you guys like the best from UAD is welcomed. I'm really looking for something versatile, that is smooth.
Thanks for all the feedback, I'm getting there!

LA2A's...I would look elsewhere for Delays...Soundtoys Echo Boy and you're done with delay forever...keep trying that FC on the drum bus...clamp the snare down, HP the kick and use the mix knob judiciously.

Hmmm... only 3? In no particular order:
Lexicon 224 Massive Passive ATR-102
Honorable mention goes to the Dimension D.

I'm in demo mode now. This is as much a philosophical question as it is a practical one. I want to choose between the Neve 88RS or the SSL E series. Higher track count or component modeling? the backwards layout of the Neve or the more user friendly SSL? I'll be hitting these quick, mainly for dialogue. Looking to brighten up something or make it warm. Talking about small tweaks to the EQ bands. Nothing major. The boost will mostly be between 1.5 and 2.5. Compressor will be a really low ratio, fast attack, high threshold. I don't much care for color. Anybody with experience with these two strips who could help me decide?
Thanks

So....... where I'm at right now is Lexicon 224 Fatso ? That fatso is just something I can't pass up, I put it on my para drum buss and I can't live without it there now. I guess I'll have to forgo the Oceanway, I like it, but I'm finding I'm not using it. The Lex, it's my go to. Also, the delay that came with my free bundle I'm finding is really good, so I may look at going for another exotic hardware emu. Getting closer though, they make it hard, all these plugins are so damn good.

I'd probably grab the Fatso, Shadow Hills MC, and maybe the Manley. All the other stuff is available on other platforms. I like the idea of an API strip and I'm sure it sounds great but as I've mentioned in another thread, I could never work without the SSL eq.

For ease of use I just pulled the trigger on the SSL. Because reverb, I went with the Lexicon 224. Because I really just liked it a lot, I went with the Shadow Hills (third one surprised me).

God...what I'd give for Bricasti to work a deal with UA... There are impulse responses of it if you google. Don't really enjoy them though which leads me to believe that I wouldn't like the unit much.

for me, the legacy LA2A and 1176 sound fine. OWS and EMT140 are currently winning my demo mode when combined with Metric Halo's ChannelStrip 3 for the gruntwork.

I use that "Waits Room" preset on tons of stuff.

Well.... I got my 3 plugins, I really weighed everything out and what I eventually came up with was
1. Fatso
2. Lexicon 224
3. API Vision Strip
WHen I was really trying to figure out what would be that 3rd plugin I went back to my original needs, and one of them was a channel strip to put on instruments so I could have the console flow and wouldn't need 4 different plugins on a guitar. I tried all the other channel strips and the API was to me the best and most versatile one of them all. Then you get the Unison stuff and it just made sense. So, that's my 3 and it's a done deal. I hope these will treat me well, So far in Demo I couldn't live w/o any of them. I thought I was going to be able to live without the API but when I really started mixing I found myself going for it often, so after I got done with a mix tonight I knew I had to grab it.
Anyways, thanks for all the suggestions, and John, If a guy buys my amp tomorrow I'm going to buy the Fairchild bundle ok! lol.... I know how much you love that bundle and I agree, it does sound very very good.

I didn't re-buy the FATSO when I got back in to UAD...just demo'd it to compare on the Drum Bus...and I miss it. Might have to pick it up when the sales come...

$249. Meh. They usually have killer sales about twice a year. Although, I just got a second $50 coupon yesterday. No idea why. Probably because I've bought an Apollo and a Quad in the last 14 days. My coupons last until late April, so I want to see what they come out with next month.

Funny, I rarely use the Fatso, so far, only on an electric guitar I need a little warmth on. The EMT 140 is all over almost every song I've done, mainly for acoustic instruments, and the Ampex is on every song's 2 bus. The Massive Passive was a big waste to me, partly because I have only a Duo.

If you bought new you will have 2 custom upgrade offers and if you bought used, you might want to check with ua as they seem to let new owners of used uad-2 products use the custom upgrade if the original owner didn't ! I have seen references to this on the ua forum. In your ua account: try this: www.uaudio.com/my/systems/specialofferIf the custom upgrade offer comes up: cool but check with ua anyway unless you bought new.

Yeah, I used the custom upgrade on the Twin - 6 for $799...added two more for $999. Then sold the Twin because it just wasn't working for me. Bought the Quad for $700 unopened...decided not to go with the custom upgrade on that one. Don't you have like 30 days to take advantage of that or am I making that up?

45 days, just email them and tell them you want that offer, they'll renew it and send it to you in an email.

the april/june promo is "Buy an octo-based product and we'll give you a $750 coupon". I registered my octo about 10 days ago, so I hope they let me hop on that promotion!
