I swat people making comments like that right back. Just because I don't have my own studio stocked with megabuck cool vintage gear anymore doesn't mean I'm no longer a professional. Do I appreciate how lovely it is to have a well maintained Neve console and a bunch of choice Neumanns in a great room, of course I do, but now that I make less than a penny for what used to make me a dollar, I agree with John that it's not a laughing matter. I think Fab's expressing in his own humorous way the general disenchantment of any internet forum where idiots and experts collide regularly.
As for Luna, I'm interested to see if it becomes an alternative to having a soundboard for tracking small bands live. One day I hope to have a room again, one with drums and amps, a piano and perhaps a nice size vocal booth. If Luna could help me do that in a simple clean way, I'd probably try it out. More than likely I'd just buy a Soundcraft board, mod the power supply, plug 20 mics into it and be done, sort of..

I thought Fab was only being facetious, and was really just, pointing out the irony of internet life , where essentially a neophyte might be advising a real seasoned pro, about the “best” way to do things!

Sorry to get off topic. Back to Luna. I’m really looking forward to it. I have to say I love this forum. A breath of fresh air, polite (mostly :-) ), useful, honest and a great source of information and comradeship in this biz that has us all sitting alone in poorly lit caves around the globe. So the haters can take a flying jump! :-) I don’t have a problem with anyone criticizing a product or company as long as it’s legitimate. I’ve always thought it was a perfect situation for a company to respond and gain even more devotees by solving the issue. I can dislike certain aspects and at the same time respect the product they put out.

I agree. I’m sure I’m just being hypersensitive. It just seems like a lazy joke. Kind of like making a joke about Southerners being racist. Really, dude? (Not equating morons on the internet to racism lol)

It does seem very well configured for a great user experience.

Wish they’d just release the damn thing. I'd imagine a huge amount of time is taken up just by the technical writing for manuals, FAQs, and knowledge base articles, along with video tutorials just like this one that they probably want to have available on day one. There's going to be so much missing from this first release, that they likely want to present what they do have in the best light possible. Kind of crazy to think on the amount of development time this has taken, while lots of things requested for Console have gone not addressed for years, and likely won't be addressed because they want people to use their new DAW. I'll save that list for a different discussion.

Long term for them, probably the best thing they could have done...

Long term for them, probably the best thing they could have done... We shall see. It's not like I was considering MOTU because of Digital Performer, or Presonus because of Studio One. The Steinberg/Yamaha development happened in a different order, but needing to invest in more Cubase or Nuendo kind of made me steer away from their interfaces. I liked Cubase well enough in the past, but didn't like the idea of the interface having features that only worked in one DAW. I'm obviously heavily invested in UA now, but I might be more interested in a new DAW like Luna without it being tied to one interface system.

I think a very large % of apollo users will ditch console and never go back once they start using Luna. I don’t see ua making Console tweaks a big priority.

I'm not sure about that, people are too invested in their current DAW and Luna will take a long time before it can compete with the top tier DAWs. They have a good opportunity to start fresh and make a modern daw without all the baggage that the likes of Cubase and Pro tools have. It could be great, remains to be seen.

Re: Console comment above. I was saying that in the context of UA spending much effort adding 5 year old requests to Console: don’t think it will happen much ?
Re: drop your current daw, I don’t disagree but L has built in functionality to export 1 to your entire session with apparently a couple of clicks. So track in Luna and export ?
I love my symphony mkii and logic but find symphony gui clunky and if L does what I need it to even more simply then Logic which it seems to that is interesting.
If you track with ua plugs, L seems a no brainer ?

Should be good for the competition as well.

Me too, but peeps have requested small changes for years, which UA largely hasn’t responded to ? L will initially only be for tbolt Mac so UA will keep Console alive and well and who knows may continue to update it too?

I reckon it will really shake the tree if it's easy to use and much like tracking to tape in its functionality . My next gear change will probably revolve around a 16" MBP , some form of Apollo with Luna; tracking with my Prism Titan hooked via Adat into Apollo. The beautifully steadfast MH ULN 2 might have to take a well earned rest . Hopefully everything keeps running long enough to allow a well considered decision. Cheers ,Eoss

I personally understand that as UA marketing Luna blurb for trying to make recording in Luna as immediate as possible and as well as the whole Luna experience?

That editing vid has me about sold. That's some next level efficiency. The ability to collapse the tracks and only see busses is pretty sick too. I have a 13" screen on my laptop, so it can get a little confusing once the tracks and busses build up.
