The 6S6b-v tube is NOT designed specifically for microphone use. But I guess it is “military spec” because that’s what they were used for, Soviet era military equipment. That fabricated sales pitch right there would be enough to scare me away from this unknown company and microphone, especially since they are based in Russia. I’ve got a 6S6B-V in my Barbaric M49 clone, and I’ve got 10 more spares sitting in the mic locker.. It’s a great tube, but I’ve never had a chance to compare it directly to an M49 with an AC701k. I’m sure it sounds different. Beesneez uses that tube in their M49 and I think FLEA uses it in some mics too. They call their M49 a 67 and use a K67 style capsule? Weird. Who made the capsule and how long have they been making capsules? How do you know it’s not an OEM mass produced capsule? $1k and it’s only a single sided capsule with no multi pattern? You haven’t heard it or talked to anyone who has heard it? Man this sounds like an impulse purchase that you will regret. I would look at one of the plethora of other option available out there. For not much more money you can get an m49 mic from Barbaric with that same tube and a proven capsule of your choice—Heiserman, Maiku, Dany... Here's a rather interesting page from Phaedrus comparing the 6S6B tube to the AC701, as well as the CK5840 to the AC701.
FWIW, from reading a bit about it it seems to me that the 6S6B was probably originally designed for use in radio gear in fighter jets. As I understand it the Russians were using tube electronics in their military jets until relatively recently due to its resistance to damage from EMP.

I've seen this guy's mics on Reverb for a while. I wouldn't put them in the camp of scheisters or anything like that. For that price, you're likely getting something much nicer that the Warm tube mics for not much of a price difference.

Interesting read about the 6S6B-V. Of course Phaedrus's entire business depends upon people not being able to find good and affordable tubes for microphones so they are going to say these alternative tubes are unsuitable. But then again I don't have the knowledge to argue with anyone about tube "grid leakage." The nice thing about the 6S6B-V is that they seem to all be low noise/microphonics. You don't need to roll 12 of them to find a quiet one. I sourced about a dozen from two different former Soviet countries and when they were tested they were all low noise/microphonics. Everyone else who has used them has reported them being very low noise. Of course that doesn't mean they have the same tone as an AC701k.

Anything that claims to be a 49 or 47, but uses a K67 immediately turns me off. Just my opinion. The K47 and K67 have very different sonic signatures,

That could be a costly joke. Russian sense of humor. I get it. But isn't the AEG trafemark owned by AB Electrolux these days? Well, maybe they licensed it and it's just my paranoid mind again

Well, maybe they licensed it and it's just my paranoid mind again I believe the Russian AEG was unaware of that AEG when they chose the name? In Russia I believe they go by something different. I feel like Russian stuff always has some weird murky wild card factor going on.

Well, his first argument is that it runs hotter and therefore "toasts the surrounding electronics and capsule". Although i won't deny that it runs hotter indeed, we're talking here about 6V x 0.2A = 1.2 Watts of heat. That doesn't look to me like a lot of heat, and i don't think it will toast the electronics.
Indeed, they try to sell us something. I rather trust the opinions of some great mic builders (e.g. Flea, Beesneez, Soyuz,... use this tube and in some older lomo mics it's also used) regarding this tube than the marketing of a company which try to sell us a competing product. (i'm not saying the phaedrus product isn't good BTW, i haven't tested it yet, so no comment on that, i just don't like that they claim a competing product is bad just to sell their own product)

I'm not promoting Phaedrus, but they do appear have to posted a well analyzed and thought out comparison of the AC701 against the other tubes bering promoted as substitutes. Frankly, the Phaedrus page was the first I could find that gave a well thought out difference between the tubes.
I do'nt think "toasting the electronics" is really the point. The point is that the specs of a lot of parts tend to drift with temperature, "toasted" or not. In many circuits a difference of only a few degrees can make a definite difference in performance.

Very simple looking design. How does it sound?

The build looks clean. The circuit looks much more simple than an M49 circuit. Looks more like the innertube 87 circuit. I am kind of wondering what it has in common with an M49. But really the only thing that matters is how it sounds. How does it sound?

Hey Jacob !
Wondering how you're liking the microphone. I'm considering their U47 clone/bottle mic.
Wondering about their in house capsules--how they might compare to something like a Maiku K47 Capsule that Chris/Barbaric uses.
Also wondering if anyone has opinions about the EF12 tube they use and the fact that they build the circuit right on top of the tube--there's no board.
Looking for my home-base tube mic--something saturated, 3D and larger than life sounding--Considering Barbaric's BA48 also.
Thanks !

I'm finding the $1300-$1800 LDTC market to be a little overwhelming--Also considering just pre-ordering the Stam 47. The MK3 looks nice.

The mic was solid overall, didn't love the metalwork on the head basket on the one I got... I didn't end up keeping it, kinda think I should have though. I think about getting another AEG all the time. The return process to MB was painless. I have been VERY intrigued by their 'ball' microphone, may give it a try at some point- I wouldn't be shocked if you emailed and they offered to sell for less than you see on the site (for any of their mics TBH) - Also some awesome prices on cool AEG mics from sellers in Europe on Reverb. It's a brand and distributor who just doesn't seem to know or care about marketing and branding. As many have pointed out AEG's '47' really isn't one, but the quality would be there for sure (from my limited experience) I think some Soyuz lovers might be surprised if they gave some of these a try...
I ended up getting some Telefunken TF-39s for an amazing price so those have become my 'workhorse' tube mics. Definitely have some nice character.

Cool, thanks Jacob for that feedback.
Good to hear your experience with MB was good.
Yeah, they use cheaper chinese bodies to keep costs down--which is what it is...
There's a local copperhead TF29 local for a decent price, but it's cardioid only and still a few hundred more than the AEG.... And the AEG just seems so neat !!
The ball mic looks really interesting...
I'll have a chat with Mark and see what he can work out.
