For audio. The only new mac to buy is the mac mini. Only thing worth the money and plenty of power for audio stuff. I can't make the math work on that versus an iMac, the iMac wins the price battle the way I look at it. Add all the upgrades and peripherals to a Mini and it costs more....for what I need/want.

If you use a Sonnet xMini server rack you can have it out of your room all together. Then you can have the HDX card there as well plus any HD arrays. The iMac you can't, and they can be loud as they age. We have 4 here and if you load them up with stuff the fan is freakin loud. I also like the ablity to pick your own monitor and mounting solutions. It might be cheaper, but call me old school I don't love the fully integrated monitor into a computer thing. But both would work fine.

Interfaces, Computers and Hard Drives live in the machine room now, and I'm sooooooo loving it.

The wheels for the new Mac Pro cost 400 f*cking dollars....
Need I say more? A $50,000 computer is capitalism in its most truly disgusting, offensive form (especially when the build components are nowhere near that cost)

This whole thing is blown out of proportion. How many people actually need a maxed out version of the new Mac Pro? Nobody here, that’s for sure.

What kind of cable is it?

the things that’s funny to me is.. you have your gorgeous luxury item with $400 wheels and $1000 stand. And then some video cables and power cables across the floor, external drives and dongles hanging off it. So you can do a custom desk setup to hide the cables and make it look tidy. But if you go custom, do you need the super fancy wheels and fancy monitor stand? So it’s totally a vanity thing, that’s all, no way not to admit it. I’m gonna feel embarrassed when I see it on people’s desks with all the wires hanging everywhere. I mean if you get the monitor, you pretty much have to get the stand. It just hurts.

What kind of cable is it? I'm using an Apple Display Port adapters to DVI on the back of my cheesegrater. Then a pair of DVI cables going 50 feet to my 27" displays. Works great. I believe I have a DVI amplifier of some sort in the wall behind my desk. I can't remember. It just always works.

What kind of cable is it? I don't have a Mac mini but We do have a Mac Pro in a Sonnet Chassis at the studio. We use a TB2 adapter(Trashcan Pro's only have TB2, one of the adapters is built into the Sonnet chassis) to HDMI and then use 2 50' HDMI cables to go under the floor and to the displays. One is a 4k 27'' monitor and the other is a 70" or something 4k TV. I have a graphics card problem(was a recall on the trashcans for this but I missed it) so the TV blips in and out at times. Monitor is solid. Just have to use nice HDMI cables with good shielding and it's all good.

You Can't get a reasonable version of it. The base model is an absolute joke spec wise.. I can't see how anyone would actual buy the base model or the next one up. They are not going to be fast machines. The mac mini is not too bad for the price. But its not going to hack it for video editing without an external graphics card. At that point the iMac is a much better deal. I don't like the current trend Apple is setting. Its like going back to the early 90s when a computer cost you an arm and a leg. Sure they are beautiful machines but apple aint doing half bad with its $245 billion cash on hand. This wasn't actually directed at you Jeremy.

According to Apple.....everyone that makes music, does it on a Laptop and uses 100% plugins. We're all just trying to make the latest throw-away trap beat we can sell to some big producer. Guys, these machines are made for video! They could care less about us. (meanwhile, I'm still perfectly fine with my Asus monitor from 2005. They dont understand this!)

If you spend 50k on a MP you want everybody to see it! Besides what ever Chinese OEM makes those wheels will have them for $100 in a month!

Video rendering is the main market for that computer. A LOT of Apple's old customers had bailed for PCs because the Macs took too long working with the latest formats. It's a Mac truck and not a sports car.

People forget that when Apple had the Power Mac it was the fastest personal computer in the world. Now apple is charging exorbitant prices for the same performance that everyone else has. MacOS is the only differentiation now.
