I've been digging into it these past few weeks. Fun being able to run Acustica plugins on my laptop.

It's my favorite DAW for tracking. Installed v.6 on one of the computers last night and poking around in it to see what's new, plus reading the release notes. Good stuff.

Thanks for the notice! "faster and higher quality samplerate conversion" awesome HiDPI = THANK YOU Features look good. Unfortunately I still don't see my biggest want: Nowhere to turn off the 'stuttering playback' when the project is being taxed. Also no metrics on the quality of playback. To me this is pure arrogance on the part of the digital community, coders thinking nobody uses hardware anyway so there's no point to sample accurate playback. I've tried to get interest on the Reaper forums for this, but I get shut down Being able to select playback to "Dropout" would mean I don't have to listen like a hawk to every single transient while printing outboard. I'll often do full sessions printed through analog and I have my work arounds... such as make a new project with just the files I'm printing at the moment. Would be a lot nicer if I could play and record giant projects without hiccups though, or at least pick up where the dropout happened and stitch it together.

Cool! I'll be downloading it, pretty soon. Being somewhat of a technophobe, I appreciate all the great educational YouTube videos on it. Chris

I recently discovered that Reaper can run as a multichannel instrument plugin inside ProTools. Which means we can use Protools rendering engine. I just did my first test. They appear to null, but so far I'm picking the ProTools online render over offline max settings in Reaper. Using SPAN I can check on the 32bit noise floor down at -180dB and theres junk down there, so I'm not certain they actually null. Or actually I'm certain they don't exactly null I should say ... its obviously not a perceptibly noticeable difference, but for some reason I've picked the PT render 80% in my generic closed eyes experiment.. just seems more open on top. Could be my confirmation bias because I've always felt this way. More tests later I guess.. so far though, cool to have so many tools!!!

I frequently run 60+ tracks with no problems on a 5 year old I5 windows machine. I've only had hiccups while tracking with certain plugs, mostly reverb, and I mute those while tracking now. I have never had hiccups while mixing.

A lot of bad habits lol..
First I work fast and I keep alternate takes in lanes. So a single track might have 10 clips or more inside. We move very fast so instead of comping it right then I usually leave that to later.
then I track the “double”.. more layers on new tracks. Then harmonies. I don’t delete during tracking much because I never know what these musicians are capable of. Sometimes they get their first take down and they are toast for the rest of session, so I’ll try to edit together some of their early takes to be the double.
I’m impatient to hear what it will sound like, so I’ll clone their tracks and choose different takes to be the double. We move to the next song, same thing.
Pretty soon I forget all about how many takes are in those tracks.
Then I branch things out onto separate tracks for verse/chorus etc. so. 24 tracks become 48.. becomes 96 tracks.. make some busses.. folders..
playback can be ok for a long time.. then it gets glitchy.

I doubt I'll ever have more than 8 tracks needed. Ah the simple life. Chris

I love the Reaper videos from Christopher Walken. He does an awesome job.
I have used Reaper for years for live tracking, even 30+ channels at 24/96. It is bulletproof.

I just wanted to say I’m really liking Reaper 6. Installed it on my MacBook and my PC. My license I bought in 2015/2016 after Reaper 5 first came out, and it’s good for two versions.. so 6 just came out. Unbelievable how much they gave us during that time! All the updates to 5 were free (4 years), now upgrade to 6 is included as well as all the 6 updates. Talk about a generous company!!! And the update and innovation is non stop... they REALLY care about the music makers out there, and want to make a great product first and foremost that anyone can access on any system. It even runs as a plugin now! Apparently so pro tools users can use it as a VST wrapper to access plugins. Thank you! the default theme looks great on my 4K monitor now; finally! No more smeared text. I do like this other hiDPI theme: forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=197202here’s a screen shot; Metric is a great theme. It isn’t as easy to use as the basic theme for me, but it’s gorgeous in Hi Rez. If anyone is curious about Reaper, the thing I had to do to make it useful is redo the toolbar. I really needed buttons for “unsolo all” “unmute all” and “unarm all”.. plus a few other buttons. It’s super easy to customize: go to preferences, shortcuts/actions iirc.. search for the actions what you want. From there you can make it a toolbar button, change its keyboard shortcut, or make your own shortcut. This is what made it become my DAW of choice, I could tweak to me. anyway.. nice work Cockos..

Metric is an awesome theme. I wish the creator would make a standard resolution version.
