Looking at options for replacing some of my Waves plugs.
CLA Classic Compressors - 76, 2A, 3A
I've been using the Purple76 from Plugin-Alliance and the El Rey from Acustica to cover the losses of the first 2. It's there a good 3A plug out these days? I know the CLA pack is long in the tooth, so there should be a decent alternative.
Rbass - what alternatives are there? I feel like I'll probably end up upgrading this one or even grabbing the full Ren bundle. I've had good experiences with the Axx plug too, so I imagine that others in the bundle may be cool too?
Studio Classics collection. I've used the SSL stuff a ton. Buss comp is always on my master. 2500 and the API EQs get used regularly. I have the PA bundle, so I have SSL and Neve channel strips there now. I haven't used these yet at all, so don't know how they are yet. I've got Acustica Pink too, but it's a resource hog. Now that I can freeze tracks and have a faster machine, that may not be a problem anymore. How's the Townhouse compressor? Other suggestions for SSL buss comp?

I hear ya... I'm mostly using my hardware 2a's, 3a's and 76's - but there are occasions where I need a plug. Believe it or not, the Native Instruments comp bundle works pretty well. 76, 2a, 160. They also have another comp that Eric Valentine uses. Forget the name. Something GT. I believe they are coded by Softube, and rebranded by NI. On sale right now @ 50% off - $99 and you won't get WUP'd later. I've already got them in the Komplete package. But again, don't use so much anymore now that I've got more hardware. They've got a VariMu comp too. I haven't really tried that one as I've got a Manley. www.soundonsound.com/reviews/ni-vintage-compressorsOn the Buss comp front - why not a hardware unit? The AudioScape GSSL or the Serpent SB4001 always sound stellar to me. On the API EQ front...not sure what to tell you. I think Kush may have something worthwhile, but I haven't tried it. I also have the Overloud one - GEM 550a.. I haven't used it enough. Need to try it more often. As for the rest of SSL....I'm not the much of a fan beyond the recall which I get with anything ITB, so.....maybe someone else can help you out there. BTW, NI has an SSL bundle to. Never even opened it. Maybe snag a Komplete bundle and get the whole shebang - including a bunch of other cool stuff like Kontakt, etc.. Good luck. And good bye WAVES!!!

I've been hearing a lot of recommendations for the Black Rooster 2a and 3a. I like the CLA3A on guitars a lot so I've been thinking trying out Black Rooster or even the Golden Age hardware comp.

I think the Brainworx SSL (which you have in the PA bundle) is fantastic. I didn’t really like the Townhouse comp when I demo’d it but since you have it in the bundle it’s worth digging into. My fav ITB SSL bus comp is The Glue. I also like the Slate FG-Grey. Kinda weird that there aren’t more 3A options out there. I like the Waves CLA one too. Or as mentioned, there’s the GAP Comp-3a which is a pretty bitchin unit.

the Brainworx SSL bundle is just $49 right now. If you dig the SSL type plugins, that seems to me to be a no-brainer deal.

I picked up the 2a a month ago and it really brings something interesting to the table in all the 2a options out there. I want the 3a as well...

My fav ITB SSL bus comp is The Glue.
Does the Glue ever go on sale or always stay at $99 ?

The Glue never goes on sale. However Cytomic offers discounts for existing customers. Here is a quote from their website: "If you have already purchased a plugin we offer a discount deal: if you spend $99 at the Cytomic store without discounts (and still own the software) you get a 30% off discount voucher to use on future purchases. For example if you buy The Glue for $99 you get a discount voucher you can to buy The Drop for $69 (or vice versa). Also if you purchase two or more plugins at once we offer a 15% discount off the order total." You may find it second hand for 50-60$ though. The Glue is also my favorite SSL bus comp plugin. It is now included in Ableton Live since version 9. Andy has also developed EQ Eight for Live, my favorite ITB EQ, sadly not available for other DAW.

The Native Instruments "Solid" bundle is pretty solid for SSL plugins. I like it a lot better than the Waves SSL stuff and almost as much as UAD. The Softube Console 1 SSL stuff is awesome too, maybe my favorite. I wish they would release the Console 1 plugins with an improved GUI as an option without the Console 1 controller.

I have most Softube plugins but don't have Console 1. I hope the "don't" offer the channels outside Console 1. I'd lose a lot more money. The idea of Console 1 is cool, but I rarely have the same channel strip on consecutive channels, so I have been using mostly Brainworks channel strips so I can mix an match.

You can use any strip you want on different channels with the hardware. SSL on ch1, API on ch2, and Neve on 3.

I meant that it seems cumbersome if I use Softube channels on some channels and other vendors channel plugins mixed in. So, Softube on channels 1,2,4,7,9 and someone else's on 3,5,8,10,11,12. I think the hardware makes it a little more difficult to know what channel you are on unless you use only the Softube channel strips. Make sense?

Personally, since I got it, I see no reason to use any other channel strips!

Toontrack SDX Rock warehouse is 46e, it's an older expansion for superior drummer and not a huge collection of sounds, but the kicks and toms are great on this one. (For rock stuff that is.)

Hmm. Tough to choose. Both have nice, ringing open strings and nice options for harmonics. Which key are you more comfortable in vocally?

Thanks so much for the info!, What 2nd had sites would you recommend I keep an eye out for a previously owned Glue?
