What’s the word?
A midrange-enhancing vocal compressor is definitely on my list, but I can’t help feeling like a sucker for being interested in the first place! This marketing is a PERFECT example of “Nikes will make you Like Mike," which I fine incredibly off-putting.
A celebrity endorsed product by a guy that preaches Ear>Gear... I’m sure many of us agree that he’d have likely been equally successful with a stock unit.
That said... anyone thinking about biting?

Nope
I do find it funny that a guy who preaches ear>gear has some rare gear that he uses for it's specific sounds..

I think about another way, do you like 76 comps, want 1-2 more that will do that, plus have a unique usable sound and some extra features at a reasonable (ymmv) price?
I don’t care about the CLA thing, so disregard it .

I don’t care about the CLA thing, so disregard it . Also, who's to say this tone (or whatever people put him on a pedestal for) isn’t just good EQ. It's too easy to sell a "magic box" these days and, like I said, I was all over it until I saw the marketing style and cringed

If I bought that, and had to stare at it in my rack, it wouldn’t “look” or “feel” professional to me. It would always feel gimmicky. Whereas an Audioscape or Hairball 1176 would seem Uber pro.
I know that sounds silly, and that it shouldn’t matter how it looks, but it does (to me).

The only thing that gives me hope for this unit is that the CLA Bluey Plug In is killer on vocals and it does sound and react quite a bit differently than other Rev A plug ins or hardware for what it's worth.

With all the different variations of 1176’s on the market, it’s basically a buy it and try it kind of deal. I don’t think I ever came across two units that sound the same, especially from different brands. I own 4 - 1176’s and none of them sound exactly the same, however I am adding some newer 1176’s and I will be testing to see how similar they are. Sorry, but the Bluey isn’t even on my list of 1176’s. Purple UA Audioscape CAPI Sold the WARM’s

not much interest in the Bluey at all however I grabbed a pair of the BLA Seventeen comps when they came out. They have an excellent feature set for an 1176 style comp (mix knob/internal sidechain/hpf-lpf) anyway I am really glad I got these things they sound killer

I know some of the BLA guys, and they know what they're doing. It's not just hype. CLA's "Bluey" had a bunch of mods and repairs, and BLA painstakingly reverse engineered it.The real question is do you like what it sounds like, not is it an exact 1176 clone. Of course, that's hard to tell if you haven't heard one yet. If I had one, I'd post some tracks for you.
Vocals are my main concern when it comes to compression, and I'm always interested in a compressor that's vocals-centric.

No one has tried it yet, as it's release has been delayed. Kind of hard to comment.
The whole marketing angle is a bit funny to me, but CLA must be bankable, because the marketing group that works for Black Lion also works for Avantone and did the Avantone CLA 10's. And I think they've done a product campaign for another client of theirs. Nice work if you can get it for CLA.
And it's clever that no one can scrutinize if this sounds authentic enough, given few have heard the Golden unit.
But objectively I think Black Lion has a reputation for making gear that isn't top line, but certainly is no slouch either. So it's most likely a useable tool. It still has always rubbed me odd that because of their roots swearing they could mod your pro audio gear to be several steps better with their mods, several pieces of gear don't seem to employ many of the upgrade techniques they want to offer you aftermarket.
I've read mixed reviews on their other compressors and it seems few guys on this board bring them up as tool to invest in. I guess I view them as an also-ran.

I kind of like stupid looking gear with dumb names. That's just me though, I'm not a typical customer. I'd rather make someone laugh than "impress" them with my 19" box.
Have to live with it at the end of the day though and I get just as annoyed as anyone. In some ways a studio is also a hotel room.
Most importantly it HAS TO WORK.
Just watched the video. Looks totally fine. I don't want CLA's name anywhere near my studio. Sorry, not sorry.

They need a triple wide called BLA BLA BLA.
I hope I am not scaring off valuable advertising monies.

I think it would look good without the “BLUEY” and BLA logo.

Bluey sounds like something I would name a soap dish or a little blue fish in a bowl.

Point of order, to the court: The term "Bluey" has been the accepted common term (vernacular) for the 1176 Rev AB Bluestripe for as long as I can remember
