Ooo that made me realize the thing I bet everyone wants really. A good space. Nice live room, maybe an iso booth or two. And a nice control room. Got it. Whose coming for a visit?

HOWEVER... I AM EAT UP with needing an honest-to-God U47 in absolute original condition. No Frankensteins. No clones. The real thing with all original components and accessories. I yearn...like a baby for its mammy. A U47 and my two KM84s. There's nothing that I couldn't do with those three mics. My wife is telling me to "just buy one...take out a loan or whatever." The key to a happy musical life is a happy non-musical wife! DO IT !!!!! You can always sell it... and if songwriting was just about "tools" there would be a lot of great houses being built one after another. It does require magic and inspiration, that's what's so amazing about it. I say go for it.

Gee, I just hope I wind up with a wife like that (again). Soulmates are real! Most likely, a new ribbon (or two) for 2020. Samar AL-95 and/or Sontronics Sigma 2. Trying to better understand, what I've got already... Chris

At this point a desk setup like this would be extremely helpful:

A studio space. I’ve got literally everything I need including treatments etc. All I need is the space. It’s Making the house search for myself and my wife more difficult, but in the long run I’d be able to make so much more money.
I’d probably stick to being sans console. I recently came into a badass vintage 12 channel side car, and that coupled with my outboard would be all I actually need.
Maybe a few more character comps and a real deal bus eq.

A studio space, that’s number one.
Microphones...I’m never going to be able to buy the real deal big boys at this point but an Upton 251, a good 47/48 style microphone, and a good U87 and U89 would be nice. KM86s are sweet but have gotten pretty expensive. Maybe a couple Coles and a Beyer M160.
Outboard? Right now top of the list is one of the new Standard Audio Level-Or II’s and a DIYRE Colour Palette. Craving some lo-fi sounds. I’d like to add a 176 and some of the Audioscape stuff like the D and V Comp. It’s been a long time since I used a real one but the plug in nvelope and Transient Designer can be real life savers so I’d like to get my hands on the hardware and A/B. Maag EQ4M for mixes would be great.
A plate reverb and an AKG BX15, BX20 or BX25. A Bricasti (why not?)
I’d like a good J-45 or J-50, or a Martin 00-18. 50’s or 60’s is fine. Just a “real” acoustic that’ll never lose value.
A Rickenbacker 12 string with Toasters. I think I’d actually prefer a 450-12 over a 360 or something.
A nice P bass for recording.
A few different cymbals from what I have in the collection now.
Some drums in odd ball finishes. Lemon Strata, Wine Red Ripple, Purple Sparkle...I like the funky ones.
A really nice upright piano, like a U3 or something similar.
A Moog Rogue or Prodigy and an Opus 3. Synths even a dummy like new can figure out. And because Stereolab uses them (about the only band with synths I listen to)
I could go on. It’s endless. There’s always something that might make “the difference”

Hmm, If I could afford it I would get an Ssl AWS48. Damn, Odyssey Sound has one for 79k with only 50hours on it. That's a great price.

'Tis a beautiful thing, but I'm pretty sure 15 degree racks wouldn't work for me. I can see where they might be good sonically - with first reflections being diverted/diffused?. It just looks like unless you're right on top of it you won't necessarily be able to read things like type/numbers above the knobs, etc. - though I suppose it would be pretty cool if you have clients standing behind you. For a singer/songwriter type like me, I prefer to be able to check meters when singing, playing guitar or piano, etc. Not to mention that I'd be constantly paranoid about accumulating dust.

I've been salivating over that 2nd order Octomic too. But it's out of my price range...
I'll just play around with my 1st order DIY one. Just need to find a way to calibrate it.

I want my own studio. In the country, surrounded by 100 acres of forest and a bunch of dogs running around outside.
I also want a pair of 4038's, a pair of U67's, a pair of KM84's, about 5 more MC77s, 16 channels of 1073, some Sphere graphic EQ's, Some old American tube mic preamps, a handful of 550a's (or BT50's), a Silver Bullet, an LA2A, a Zener Limiter, Massive Passive, ELOP, an EMT140, BX-20 and an assistant to help me set all this shit up.
And then there are instruments and amps and pedals and whatnot... yikes.

I've REALLY slowed down on gearlust too. I think I finally got all the fundamentals I need and I realize other things aren't really better, they're just...different. But just got back from a write and the guy had one of the new 67s...It stirred me a little...I almost felt an emotion. Have to admit, gear has almost zero importance to me these days, I "Really Want" more great songs, and artists, so so much more than any single piece (Or any pile of) Gear. I did say almost.

Great sounding, spacious and air conditioned rooms. Enough storage space to get all of my crap out of the way. It's a the very top of my list.

For all the folks needing some space I would love to give an RGO discount. (sorry if this is too spammy).
