So - is this using the MK47 design from DIY? And that's cool? Has anyone used one of these? ...that recently-sold completed clone I posted above uses the the Ioadio MK47 kit: groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=35667.0...but the body is not the Chinese version...I believe it's the Equinox version, also developed for DIY: www.diyrecordingequipment.com/projects/equinox-equ47-microphone-body/...there have been rumors that the Chinese built their version by copying the Equinox, but I can't verify that info... ...I reached out to one of the DIY guys, dandeurloo, who has good experience with this particular kit, so hopefully he can offer some first hand experience using it...

Speaking of Chinese...I can't figure out why someone doesn't come out with a VERY authentic looking 47 body with all Chinese parts. Basically, a $1500 mic that looks exactly like a 47. If I understand it correctly, you can go to China and have them tweak a capsule until you ok it...Or have someone design a capsule for it ( @sinsay ) - I firmly believe that's 85% of the sound anyway. "It would sell like freaking HOT CAKES. Advertise it as what it is - a damn great bang for the buck...I don't know what kind of money it would take for that kind of venture - a million? - but if I had it, I could make some money. I can see an ad now, "Does this mic sound exactly like a 1956 U47? Well, no...but it's $1500 and is damn close..." Then small print is, "We have gone to great lengths to maximize performance and minimize cost...to bring you what you love about the 47 - midrange - and leave out what you hate about other budget mics - shrill top end" This is a DIY MK47 from Max! It is 1500 in parts with a great capsule (Blue Line). Well worth the money.

As far as the SDC 260. I have heard that John Mayer likes them from a reliable source. I know the Chinese have knock offs but, they don't sound like the vintage tube SDC I have used. I do have a sample comparing a Asian tube SDC to my km84. With a little eq they can get pretty close.

Just ordered a telefunken m80 to mic snare, seems to get pretty rave reviews for that application.
Front end audio also has a 15% off sale today, so that kinda sealed the deal...

What's with the HUGE 2khz scoop? What's the instrument that's appropriate on? I see Lynn used them a lot on live strings...ok...get that...take a little honk out of the strings...but, that's a weird place to cut, IMO.

That must be why the 84 felt like it was pushing the upper mids.
