I wonder how the M1/3 really compare to the MK-101/102/103 etc capsules.

Here's a new vocal acapella example of the AKG (Black) P120. Into my 'ol Mbox2 Mini. Recorded as a "part response", to a different thread, on another website Far Far Away (well maybe not That Far). It's another brief off the cuff "one take", off a great Classic song... Chris EDIT: Another very good sounding "cheap" LDC, is the MXL V87, a relatively unknown clone of the U87. It does sound 87-ish enough, where it can fool someone. I may mess around with it soon and can post/add a clip, on this post FWIW. Streets under $200 new, got mine mint/used for $120.

Sorry for the delay. But this Old Dog learned a new trick! (figured out a Chromebook MP3 convertor) Original WAV file was too large. Fixed it above. Thanks, Chris

I have no intention of derailing the thread, but I am wondering, having read your interesting views on cheap LDC's, if buying great dynamic microphones is not a better alternative, sound-wise, to investing in cheap LDC's? Such as: EV RE-10 and RE-11, Beyer M201 and M88, Sennheiser 431 (mk1),... These mics may not make a great impression on clients, but they may be more versatile (poorly-treated environment, stage,...).

FWIW I recorded that last brief ditty, in effectively, an office cubicle.
That condenser vs. dynamic concern, however, is more apparent on loud vocals.
441 is generally my fave vocal dynamic, M88 close 2nd. Chris

My vocal dynamic mic picks in no particular order
Heil PR35 Shure SM7B Shure 545SD (57s and 58s are too honky and bassy. betas are not so great in general. this one works more all around.) SE V7
some of these are 99 dollar microphones and they can all be found under 299 if you wait/look around
