LOL! It's unlikely I'll ever get one, in any event. And what do I know. (Not much! ) Chris

Lewitt's 640 does sound like a good 414 with an improved low end. It's the best buy I can think of. Chandler's mics sound world class, end of story. Stam's U67 sounds like a vintage U67, that's why it ain't cheap. The United Audio 47 FET is very close to the original, a very good deal IMO and it is very well made.

What's the consensus of Stam SA47 vs Signal Art Electronics U48 premium edition ?
I heard a Stam vs Flea shootout and the Stam had extended lows and highs, but the Flea had the magic midrange I associate with a U47. The Stam in comparison had hyped highs, which sounded good but a tad artificial.

I like Lewitt because they sound professional, not cheap.

Maybe that will give you a point of reference. I posted this earlier in the thread, but just in case you missed it.

I've seen your videos they are great thanks for making them But in most of these clones I don't hear the "sound" of a good U47. The closest, I've found, was the Heiserman. It still lacks a bit of depth and weight I found. But the first batches of Stam SA47 had Dany Bouchard's M7 capsule which I believe was made by Heiserman, so they should be close enough? Also, I hear little talk about the BSA RS4. They have a Haun K47 capsule. Are these rated well? Their UM4X has a Thiersch M7 Blueline and little reviews aswell.

Unfortunately, the missing component will always be the VF14. Without it none of the clones/replicas are really "right." Just close. I personally favor the FleA, which is a touch more mellow with slightly less low end and a little more midrange than a real U47. What I've heard of the Heiserman was also really good. I'd love to get one in here with both heads to try for myself. I haven't heard much of the BSA mics in general. Would love to hear some clips of it.

I’ll add this MBHO / Haun capsules are as good as anything out there, they just have chosen to not do as much OEM or direct sales as others. While 80% of the sound of a mic is the capsule and transformer the rest still matters. The tube and how it interacts with the transformer are the next biggest factor ( always wondered how many of the modern replacements were designed around a VF14 or what other tube.) We also haven’t heard a brand new 47 in about 50 years and those used K47 not M7 capsules. Remember mics are electro mechanical devices so the capsule is going to change a bit with use.
