I've never liked Bohemian Rhapsody. It makes little or no sense, either storywise or musically and it's too damn long!

I'll try to talk him into "Rap City In Bleu" instead, for some extra European appeal then! (fortunately, no Heiserman Mic, will be harmed in the making of this) Chris

About to put in for a pre-order on the Tube, HK47, which after a day of reading about this mic, I think will suit my singer's voice better (dark, tad honky and mid-filled). He sounds great through the AR-51 we've used on the latest EP. Is that proper thinking over the M7?
I'd sworn off preorders, but seems like there are no serious issues with Heiserman here... As I pull my SA4000 from the rack (second time) because the right channel output has dropped ~1.5db (second time), lol. I'm not even sure I'm going to repair it, considering the last repair for the same issue cost me $300+. I have the AS Comp that I can use for bus if I miss that vibe there.
Any input on the capsule choice would be appreciated!

With your sa4k: drag, they are selling the mkii upgrade as a diy.
Maybe contact Josh and see if you could get a deal, cus of the second repair and do mkii upgrade with sowters?

Well Bat, clearly their H7 capsule for Muskrat Love, or that tender Ode to Willard's head rat... "Ben". And the H47 for Bohemian Rap City. No matter what John E. sez! (alternative Rap spelling) Chris P.S. Kidding aside, the 2 basket thang is awesome!

Yes! (as Chessparov dashes off for Lottery tickets) BTW I'm in total agreement with John K's initial post.. (But I love/am biased towards Olde Tyme sonics ala Classic Capitol/Abbey Road/50's/60's etc.) So a "draw" for me, between both (fantastic) capsules. Chris

Yes! (as Chessparov dashes off for Lottery tickets) Chris Lol, isn't that the truth. Thanks for the info! But as someone who's done a lot of singing over the last 20 years into a vintage 47, I'm kinda looking at this as a price break. And, it's new and made entirely in the US which I like about a lot of the gear I own (common thread, IMO, when you start acquiring the "keepers" in your racks). Win win. Edit: order/deposit placed, plus t-shirt.

I would go k47. I have a lot of the same mid and honky thing and the M7 accentuates that

The M7 is fabulous, but definitely more of a vintage sound. For someone with extremely breathy and edgy vocals, the M7 is fantastic. Or for a deliberate retro sound. Overall the K47 seems to get more use here.

Oh thanks - that’s good to know. Might do that. There’s very little tonal difference from one Telefunken tube to the next in these mics, so I’m not sure that’s a good use of time or money. The difference in tubes is typically more of a function of how the power supply is calibrated relative to a particular tube.... and we do that when we build and test each mic. Tubes from different manufacturers will often have a different tonal quality... NOS Mullard being a good choice if you want to experiment.

Tube swapping can be a fun hobby. A Telefunken tube can pull out more high-end details on an M7-style capsule. A Mullard can take the sharp edge off a C12-style capsule, resulting in a smoother, more pleasing sound. I have tried many different kinds, but have ended up with Telefunken tubes in my microphones with M7 and K47 style capsules, and Mullard, Amperex, and RCA tubes in my microphones with C12 and K67 style capsules. I have a bunch of GE, Raytheon, Sylvania, etc., tubes that each have their own sounds.
My guess is that the stock tube in the H47tube is going to sound as good as anything.
