I haven't tried that one. I've heard it's good. I really don't get excited over having a ton of plugins so I haven't tried them. I think I work better with a slimmed down plugin list.

I've kind've let the freaking fantastic user interface wow me...it's just so easy to use. Where does the EQ bother you, dandeurloo ? The interface is great. I love the freq. analyzer and the M/S features. But something about the sound isn't as good as the Flux eq. The Flux eq is one of the best. I was doing some mix tweaks with a client here and he even heard the difference and asked me not to use Fab EQ but use Flux. That was very surprising to me. So I asked him why and he said the other one sounds better. I said, your right! haha If I could have the best of both eq's I would be set for a really long time as far as ITB eq goes.

My guess is you will find a preamp sound you will really like for a specific task. Which is great. I have a few things that I have built with one thing in mind and found out that it wasn't great at that, but ended up being great for something else. So in the end, well worth the effort.

Serpent audio has some great kits and is one of the best designers out there! He is extremely detailed.
Also AC Sound has some great stuff like the CLX 160 comps. He's a great guy as well!

The fab filter stuff is great. I love the features and work flow of their eq. I just wish it sounded better, like flux. If it did I could get by with almost just their plugs.

What are you hoping for out of the pre? Cheap an clean? General purpose or single application in mind?

I spoke to Scott about having him build me a 000 type guitar. It's gonna happen!

Exactly! Any good dealer knows you don't get hooked on the product Damnit! I think this is where I went wrong....... You started dealing because you are hooked! It's how you feed the beast.

I make my money off of using my gear, not re-selling it! SNAP!I didn't say this to be a dink. Sorry if it came off like that. It's just how my business model works. I only know a very few people who make it work any other way.

It's a great sounding EQ!
I make my money off of using my gear, not re-selling it! But I am sure you could get the cash you put into it back out of it. All you would have to do is let someone hear it.

I would say the Drip Pultec or a CAPI kit is a good starter project.

Looks like $850 or so. Pretty good actually. How does the build compare to a vp28? Solid instructions? Could this be next on my bench? I can build one in 4 hours. Simple.

I want to know how it compares to the BLA Sig on the 002. That is really hard to beat at this point.

I don't know if I have the session around here or not. It had AKG's, KM84's, KM184's, Gefell's, Beyer's, 2 different Josephson mics and a number of lower budget versions. The stand outs where the KM84's, Gefell's and those MK-012's. All of those three where nice.

I've actually got a set of Igor's Sontec PCBs and all the pots if anybody wants to do this build. I don't have a PSU for it though and frankly don't remember what it needs. It's been sitting here for a few years and I may have to finally admit that I'll never get to it. Brian are these the Red PCB's? I may have interest in them.

I have done a big pencil mic shoot out in the past. My favorites where my km84's and the Gefell 300's. Some of the other modering high dollar SDC where actually really awful sounding. If I didn't already own a pair of km84's I would have bought a pair of the Michael Joly modded MK-012's. They sound really great and are super cheap. You should check those out.

I think that would be the price if someone built it for you. It also depends on tubes. New tubes are cheap. NOS tubes cost hundreds more. I've heard a pair with very basic stuff and they sounded great. I just got my pair of pcb's finally and I am building them up this week hopefully.
That link I posted had a list of parts and cost.

I think I am gonna sweet talk SLL into making me an 000 sized. I want it for writing and recording. If it sounds as good as the other 2 I recorded I will be a very happy guy.

The Drip pultecs are super easy and sound great!
Sal, you could do a vp312 di. I think it's my favorite CAPI pre specially when followed by the Missing Links. Plus, the di is great. It would be a good first build.

Jim, I want to hear your pre amp. Have you ever heard a Buzz MA 2.2? It's a great mic pre and I would love to hear yours compared to it. I think they probably are aiming in the same direction. Thoughts!

What is a good smaller body acoustic? Ive heard a few older acoustics that sound incredible but come with the higher price tag. Are any current guitars good or do I need to get on the waiting list with Scott? Love the Santa Cruz OM/PW's...The 1929 00's and H models are fantastic too...I've had two Martin 000-18 Golden Eras I wish I had back... Yeah, I've heard some fantastic older guitars but nothing newer. Looks like I'm gonna save up and then call Scott to have him make me one.
