Interesting. I'd love to know how hot that 1RU gets with 6 modules in it..... My 10 space 500 racks seem mega-luxurious space wise, and with 10 modules in a 3RU space, it's as hot as a pancake.....

Today, I plugged it into the AEA RPQ and am excited that it sounded "just right" IMO through that clean pre for vocals.! Not "top shelf hot garbage"? Sorry, I tried but I just couldn't resist after reading your other post.... Haha

Is there a thread for going from serious (dead serious) to a hobby? Cause I'd be all over that thread.
But moving from hobby to becoming serious as a business....erm.....OK. Carry on. We'll watch from the sidelines. Don't get hit by the structures disintegrating from socio-economic policies, the cratering dollar, the betrayal of musicians by both traditional and "new improved" music companies, general musician malaise, and the final blow of Spotify, Apple, Google, and the rest of their musical AI wielding buddies hell bent on making a profit off of "music and musicians".
Then again, maybe I'm just having a bad day? Eh....maybe, but I don't think so. The BMI purchase by investment capitalists, and the recent minuscule "generous sharing payout" to those who actually created the music that the investment capitalists intend to profit off of pretty much secured the last nail in the coffin from my perspective. A disgrace. But pretty much on point for everything else music - except for the gear and instrument sellers. What did I expect? Fairness? Respect? Equity?
HA!! I'm an idiot!!!!!
Does anyone know if Hobby Lobby caries Mogami TT patch cables?

Bricasti hardware. Hard to make it sound bad. Adding it to drums makes the drums and verb sound like they came together as one, had a baby, baby grew up, and became stronger than either and/or both. To call it "magic" would perhaps be hyperbole.....then again......
maybe not.

For perspective : EVERY input/output on EVERY module comes up on the TT bays (barely countable) in this studio. David set this stuff up right..... This is the guy who pulled me HARDCORE into TT / EDAC patch bays with EDAC M to EDAC M patch snakes to group all bays, racks, interfaces together. Once you've done a deal to hook up this kind of gear, you begin to realize how important interconnects are. Attachment Deleted

With VERY few intermittents. Over decades, I can count the intermittents on less than one hand, and I really don't take care of my bays very well. On cheaper TRS bays, I've had that many intermittents in one session.... I do not consider generic TRS bays useful for anything except vent panels. Haha!!!

Others may disagree - but I think a Pultec style EQ is a basic essential.
Get a pair of CAPI BT50. Love them. Different strokes. I have owned the BT's and still own a pair of EQP's, but could easily work without either of them. Just my perspective. But I love and absolutely NEED my Miad LCPQ4040's, Avalon 2055's, API 550A's, CAPI LC25's, Eisen LilPEQr's, and the SB Air EQ's.

Yup. vibe is super important. I used to love going to Bill Schnee's studio and seeing all the gold and platinum records lining the hallway to the bathrooms. Then MORE hanging in the men's restroom over the urnals. LOL. I always wondered what was on the walls in the women's rest room. . Never got to see in there.... Super vibe. O'Henry's was another awesome place. Huge open area where different bands recording there could hang out. Great open area pool table. Long table where 12 or more could sit down and eat. Full on awesome kitchen with a FULL SIZE FRIDGE and a counter mounted "soda fountain" like you'd see at your local fast food place that was free and always ready with great drinks. Made working there a treat - not a job. Oh....and they had killer mics and the biggest API with Flying Faders on the west coast....but who cared?? LOL

Tie Line - non-normalled "traditional setup" patch bay : 1/2 Normalled smart setup patch bay : Attachment DeletedWhen I set up the new studio CRM, I was thinking console, tie lines, traditional.... It took about a week before I wanted to put a bullet in my head, and figured out that I needed to tear everything down and start over. And that "start over" cost a bunch of money, some burned fingers and several weeks. But was well worth it long term.

db what do you use for patch leads? Some bantam patchleads like ones which are custom made with VanDamme cable and Neutrik plugs are $25 each! PS - with enough I/o and a smartly designed bay that is 1/2 normalled, I find very minimal patch cable use anymore. Most of the time I'm rarely using a handful of cables. Before, when I had everything set up as tie lines, I was using hundreds. I'll try to find a pic. Each insert send and return essentially takes two patch bays and is good for 48 channels. I have them set up this way : Bay 1 PT OUT 1-48 1/2 normalled into Outboard Gear IN 1-48 Bay 2 Outboard Gear OUT 1-48 1/2 normalled into PT IN 1-48 The entire send/return for 48 channels is made with only having 2 patch bays, and ZERO cables needed for those inserts. All routing is done inside PT, and there is zero need for patch cables in normal use.

What’s the appeal for the TT? I can see if you need a shit ton of patching, have a console…but the convenience of a PB where you can switch from N to HN to thru - is so easy. And no soldering. Or maybe I’m thinking of something else. Density, switching jacks, robust switching jacks. With VERY few intermittents. Over decades, I can count the intermittents on less than one hand, and I really don't take care of my bays very well. On cheaper TRS bays, I've had that many intermittents in one session....

The Heiserman seems to be the favorite over and over. So it’s not just hype? There is hype. But IMO it's well deserved. I love mine.

I have my HEDD 192 for tracking and my stereo hardware chain and an Avocet for monitoring duties, so I'm thinking the Ferrofish A32 Pro will do just nicely for Cubase inserts. Yes it only has 114dB DR compared to the Lynx's impressive 120dB DR but as I'm inserting mostly tube gear and vintage style solid state gear then the noise floor hard deck is coming from the inserted hardware not the converters. 114dB vs. 120dB is so theoretical that it's not an issue in the real world. That 6dB difference is so far below real world noise floors - especially for analog gear - as to be rendered meaningless in reality. More on point would be how does one "sound" vs. the other.

Love my Serpent SA3a's - and the Chimera is a direct descendant. 3a's are always a bit more my style over 2a's. but if you want some tube goodness in addition to the opto compression, look no further than the AudioScape "OPTO".

So - what's your approach and how many channels do you face recalling for a mix and are you using high end ADA's like Lynx Aurora N? PS I added 64+ to the poll to cover Dr Bill Thanks for thinking of me. I'm at 120. Mostly AVID HD I/o although I do have one lonely 192 that will get swapped out at some point. I'll probably end up at 128 on the next computer upgrade. I'm already wired for it. That will probably be the last I'll upgrade I/o. Unless I add a third HDX card.... I don't worry about "high end" AD/DA except for my final monitoring stage which is a Grace M905. That made a big difference over my previous monitor controller. It's rare that I'm ever using all of that I/o though. Every output is assigned to a piece of outboard in PT's I/o matrix - so I might be using outputs 1/2, 9, 37, 47/48, 82, etc. It all depends on what pieces I need for any particular mix. There are pieces that ALWAYS get used though. My mixing 2 buss chain is always a Silver Bullet mk2 A>N>4000 or N>A>4000 into ZOD IDDI's - for mixing. The 4 major food groups : API, Neve, SSL and Tube. I used to never use SSL, but somehow the Hitmaker stuff changed that for me. Beyond that things change up as the need arises. For mastering, it's normally Missing Link > Manley Vari-Mu-Mu > Silver Bullet mk2 > Miad LCPQ 4040's > Fabfilter Limiter - although things get changed up as the need arises. Sometimes the Avalon 2055 gets the nod on the EQ front, and sometimes an SSL Bus comp makes it's way in. Either Serpent or AudioScape. I have things set up with the hardware outboard so that recall is pretty simple, but the PTHDX template is fairly complex. I used to be ALL about tweaking stuff (hardware) to get the sound, but the MrFocus modules kind of changed that for me - forcing me into hardware "presets" that either work or don't. If any particular piece of gear doesn't work, I'll move to a different piece(s). If that doesn't work - I have no qualms about using both hardware and software to achieve my goals. For example - I love API 550A's, and I have an EQ preset that just "works" on a lot of stuff : but there are times that it's not "perfectly" EQ'd. So at that point, I'll instantiate a plugin to complete the picture. Barring that - I'm back to a plugin chain to make something work if the hardware doesn't. But it usually does. I've had LFAC (consoles) my entire professional life, and I love them a lot. If I was tracking groups every day I'd still have one. But for mixing, Hybrid has by FAR eclipsed mixing on a big desk for me. Love it so much more, and am so much more creative with this approach. Tons of pics of Blinky lights and stuff on my instagram : drill.mojo Good luck with your setup - and don't let anyone fool you. More is most definitely MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

U87 is definitely on the short list. No doubt. Beyond that....um, maybe KM84? Not sure. Glad I don't have to really contemplate this subject. Most of my mic collection will not be sold until I'm 6 feet under..... Man I thought we were going to leave each other’s mics to who ever lived longer😁 Haha!!! You're probably going to win! .
