This sort of thing is pretty common these days. Just about every touring artist I look up to see about tickets has a VIP package available. I would guess that some are better than others, mostly depending on the attitude of the artist or whether they are hung-over/jonesing (or not).

Dan, my bassist has a G&L, and the active output on the thing is pretty high. How well does your box handle active electronics?
BTW, very very interested. I have been underwhelmed with the Radial JDI I have been using. It's clean and gets the job done, but that's all IMHO.

I love this one! But I thought it was horse manure.

This company offers a variety of monitor controllers: SM-Pro Monitor ControllersI have never used one, but they seem to have a fairly good reputation on the InterWebs.

Tom was hiiiiiigggghhhh though I wonder if it's part of the act, or maybe just his personality. Some people always seem to be under the influence. That can be a good thing, or it can be a bad thing . . .

Are there any videos showing the comparisons between different makes and this one? I haven't found a true shootout, but here's a fairly detailed review of how the Torpedo Live is used: I''l post up if I find anything.

I've got a pristine Rivera Silent Sister 1x12 cab I'd sell if you're interested in that route. Thanks for the offer but I'm leaning toward the Reload, and perhaps the CAB pedal as well, to have the mic/speaker IRs available outside of Pro Tools.

It reminds me of the Digidesign Eleven Rack I don't think the Torpedo does distortion like the Eleven. It's designed to eliminate the cabinet and microphones. Depending on the model, there's also some effects like EQ and compressor, and also power amp modeling to use with preamps. I get the impression that it turns your entire rig into a DI, or reamp signal chain. It will attenuate as well. The YT vids I've watched sound pretty good. Here's a demo by Pete Thorn:

I'm thinking about re-amping, and looking at what's available. This looks very interesting: Two Notes Torpedo StudioI am interested in hearing about any owner/user experience with their stuff. I am looking to retire my 4x12, or build an iso cabinet for it, or for a dedicated 1x12. Or not. Either way, I will be putting yet more $$$$ into the studio, so I'd like to get it right. The thought of being able to run a Marshall, Deluxe Reverb, Vox, or Supro direct into PT via a kick-ass load box is very attractive. If Two Notes gets you 95%+ (or more) there, I am ready to make the leap. The convenience factor would be huge, and I could use the space in my smallish room.

I nearly bought a used 992 but hesitated because there was no way to try, then buy. All of the info I could find online was positive, though - the box has a stellar reputation amongst its user community. Congrats!

I can see Apple providing a premium service within iTunes, along the lines of HDTracks, with higher pricing. Offer participating artists better royalty rates, in exchange for exclusivity. It's the Apple way.

The irony is pretty thick on this one: Bono, in an upcoming issue of TIME magazine, discusses a "secret project" designed to "save the music industry". As reported by SPIN magazine (you couldn't make this up): Bono and Apple will save the music world

Yeah, spendy, and given that I already own Ocean Way, 224, 140, 250, Exponential, etc etc, it's hard to justify.
