Can't take that dude. He's discredited himself in too many video's. Also, can't deal with the manic side of his personality.....

Just that image is "worth a thousand words" For a reviewer who is both naturally funny and authentic... See Podcaststage, with Bandrew, on YouTube. Recommended. Chris

Sometimes he comes up with some helpful insights and then other times he's way off. I will say that his A/B video of the Klark Teknik 1176 kept me from buying one. (I do love my KT 2A though!)

That dude is a hard pass for me. If I wan't phoned-in, wacky clickbait...well, I don't actually want that.
The KT76 thing was just ridiculous to the point that I'm not interested in that dude's 'ideas' about audio.

It was nothing new (oversampling) but it made me think why I often thought, over the last 15 years, that good old Logics-Stock-Exciter used in parallel sounds more like real gear than so called analog simulations/emulations. As far as I know this thing does not emulates anything, it just generates new harmonics and sounds good.
Maybe one more plugin which is overlooked in decades?
I am not an expert but it sounds good.

Didn't watch the video.
Don't know the dude or anything about him.
I realized a long time ago that most of these types of vids are just folks opining from places of ego, from profit(click revenue, pay-to-review, free stuff for favorable reviews, etc), or worst of all, from both. Much like anything online these days you have an open pulpit, you have a preacher, and you have the masses whose agreements echo, and those who disagree who are banned, discouraged from posting or otherwise silenced through downvotes or defensive interactions with fans of the mouthpiece or the outcome of the review.
It generally serves to filter out the negative (the arguably more constructive) responses so that the preacher only gets positive reinforcement, further bolstering their ego and the belief that they and their opinion are important and correct.
I mean c'mon, you gotta be pretty full of yourself to make videos of yourself jabbering on and on about stuff and thinking you can make money doing it.
But anyway, I don't think emulation of analog tones is "perfect" but then again I've very much relaxed my own ego and eased off the demand for perfection (or what I perceived as perfection). At some point I bought into the whole "has to be perfect to be used" thing, but I now just see things as *tones* to be used if they fit my needs.
So I don't worry about these things anymore and I'm much happier. If it sounds good, then it sounds good. If it sounds bad, then it's bad. Sometimes the bad sound can work good, and sometimes the good sound doesn't work and is therefor bad.
Regardless, I think folks should master what they have first and I'd bet they don't go scouring the earth looking for perfection and wasting their time and money doing so.

That reminds me of the converter loopback crowd over at GS. God forbid someone poke any holes in the validity of that ultimately failed experiment.

So many of my (probably jaded) views came from watching those types of threads. But the rise of Youtube talking heads has really sealed the deal for me on this. If you search for anything you will find nothing but highly produced opinionated commentary and little in the way of facts. Oh you want to hear a clip of this guitar pedal? Ok, here's a 5 minute video which is comprised of 15 seconds of verbose and ambiguous intro attempting to create intrigue so you'll watch it, 5 seconds of animated title screen, 2 minutes of talking and pointing to things that don't matter (do we really need to go over what the tone and volume knobs do?), 5 seconds of actual clip that you wanted to hear, but 2 of those seconds are dead air before the player hits the pedal, then another 2.5 minutes of rehashing an ambiguous position so as to not offend the manufacturer, with links to other vids overlayed so that you can't see what's going on behind as the outro music plays. Or it's somebody with a cellphone making a un-intelligible video where you can't hear the thing you wanted to hear but you also can't understand what they're saying either.

I saw James, on an incredible show that also included Ray Charles/Jefferson Starship, and... Danny Gans.
James put on a terrific performance, but this was on the early 80's. Chris

I saw a video where he said the old 1176 revisions used transistors, and the new ones used FETs - then he proceeded to make some comparisons of plugins and hardware without considering level matching.
Youtube videos make no sense...99 out of 100 people request youtube clips to decide on a purchase these days, though.

Gustav Yeah but if it somehow sounds good on YouTube it has to be freaking awesome!
