I didn't call them dicks. I can only speculate that dealing with creatives as clients, from a service perspective, makes them vulnerable. A car repair guy deals with regular people, about definable things. Musicians don't live in that universe. I've never seen a local music store repair guy last more than a few years before they lose their minds or burn out. Musicians like their half-broken things, then they break all the way, then they get fixed and work correctly, and the musician complains about the half-broken thing that was lost. There's a pretty high percentage of that. No car/toilet repair guy has to contend with a big list of subjective requests, theirs is purely objective. Amazing observation.
Deep electronics talent is like the old postal exams filter sociopaths to the post office. haha.

Wow. Crazy I was literally thinking about this just a couple hours ago. Sadly doesn’t seem like a happy ending.

Anyone have an update on Shannon. Some day I'm hoping to get my mics back so I can have that crusty sound engineer story of the mics that got away and miraculously returned into my arms. I sure wish you luck, my friend. I'm very fortunate to have a relatively happy ending to my "Rehab" story, but I had some help.

I don’t know anything but always found Shan to be a very helpful and generous person. We are all human and can get in over our heads with lots of things in life.
I hope he is getting whatever helps he needs to work his way through this situation.
He is a great asset with master level skills and knowledge: need him back doing what he does best.

Forgiveness is certainly warranted. But sending mics at this point is crazy talk with people still not getting either mics and / or money back. There are plenty of talented mic specialists out there. So many of them seem to be flakey though....

Expertise is pointless without reliability. Hoping Shannon rebounds, and perhaps if/when he does, a dose of humility will come with it. When any service provider claims to have most of the answers about their area of expertise, the best way they can establish credibility is by using their gifts to help others reliably. NOTHING will establish credibility like that. I have several mics I was thinking about sending to Shannon before this all happened. Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot of flakey mic service guys and the reliable ones are extremely expensive. At some point. I want to swap a few old Teflon 414 caps for some tim Campbell brass caps and I won’t do it until I can find someone honest, timely, and fairly priced.

Well, the good news and bad news of my mic drama. Through some miraculous intervention. John Kennedy hooked me up with David Wheeler who happened to locate my pair of Charter Oaks S600's. The bad news is that the mics were dis-assembled and missing parts and cables even though I was told by Shannon that they were ready to be shipped to me,(and I paid him $150 for shipping along with his bench test to tell me that nothing was wrong with my mics but he could make them into a million dollar mics for $1600) Sooooo..... long story short David heroically put them back together and is shipping them back to me for $250 so I'm out for $400 but at least I get my mics back. I have no ill feelings toward Shannon, I have had my share of tough times. I just wish I had my $400 back. I realize others have not been as fortunate as me though. Soldier on.

I’ve had great experiences with Richard Land at Land Audio. He’s repaired a couple of weak D12’s and older 414’s and Neumann TLM170s for me. Turn around time is usually a week or less.

I have 3 AKGs with him now, 414 TLII, 451eb, and a D12E. Really hoping he can get my D12E going!! Good to know he works on mics other than AKG.

I'm really happy that things worked out for you in the end. Dave Wheeler is a knight in shining armor. it's all a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on ones nervous system if you ask me, but I do wish Shannon the best of luck getting back on course.

A big +1 for Richard Land. Completely overhauled a C-460-B for me; new capsule, too. Excellent work, quick turnaround, great communications, highly knowledgeable, and a very nice person as well. -09

Hello all. I have rescued all the mics that were available for rescue at MicRehab. Shannon will not be back for a while. The business is gone for now. Feel free to reach out to me if you had a mic there and we can see if I recovered it. As of now I have a few that I don't know who the owner is Thanks! Dave Wheeler

I don't even have a mic with Shannon and I feel like this is a huge load off a collective community of humans. "Thanks" from the cheap seats!

I have a couple that need attention as well. There are a few guys in the world who can work on them - somewhere I have an email from somebody at one of AKG's spinoff companies who said he could, but I'd rather find somebody on this continent.

From the email when I had Richard repair my D12:
As long as the mic passes signal and has loss of low end we should be able to bring it back. We have a very good success rate with this repair but occasionally it will just not adjust back. So, if we can bring it back to it's former glory which I believe we have a very good chance of doing the charge is $150.00 plus shipping, but if it will not adjust back we do have a bench fee of $75.00 plus shipping to return the mic. Either way with this mic I believe it is definitely worth a shot.

I can’t say enough good things about Dave Wheeler. He went to Shannon’s and recovered my 251. I’m sure that was an awkward experience to have to confront Shannon on our(mic owner’s)behalf. Also, He did some work to my mic to fix the issues that Shannon should of taken care of initially. I have to say that even though I was out more money, Dave was able to restore it at a reasonable cost, so I wasn’t at a total loss. considering he had to retrieve the mic to work on it, put another capsule in it because Shannon took it apart and who knows where my two capsules are? Dave sent me some sound samples and it sounds to be more natural and true to what I wanted in this mic, he made it even better. Dave is the man! Thanks Dave! I’m a happy customer here.

Fingers crossed!!

I keep seeing forum threads of mic repairers losing the plot and going AWOL with client's mics often going AWOL along with said repairer.
And this is often after they have had the mics for several years.
What gives?

Gunter Wagner here in Australia produced a batch of U47's considered the most accurate of all the U47's clones made.
In fact they could hardly be called clones.
He used many original parts until he ran out of stock and was forced to cease production.
He repaired my U77 and it now sounds magical.
Apart from the tyranny of distance I can thoroughly recommend him especially for Neumann repairs.

Has no business or social skills. Takes on more work than he can handle...then the cycle continues. Throw in a drug habit and it ain’t good.
