Is it just me or has anyone else found that the latest update to Pro Tools 2019.5 native seems much more CPU efficient. I overdubbed some vocals today on a project with 16 tracks of drums, guitars, bass, keyboard and just a couple of plugins and hardware inserts and my CPU hit at a 64 buffer was only reading about 3-4% on my late 2012 Mac mini quad I7. In the past it would have been much higher, in the 20-30% range. It could be because I upgraded to Mojave at the same time, but I have to say I am happy with the performance bump.

Looks like I would need to update my OS too (I'm still on 10.11.6). I read that the newer OS's were more resource hungry and so have been staying with El Capitan on my aging 2011 iMac Quad i7 but now I can't remember where I got that info or if it's reliable.
Anyone got any insight here? I haven't really kept up on it, just been rolling along.

I would stay with El Capitan unless you can jump all the way to Mojave, but I think the iMac and Mac minis can only go back as far as late 2012 to run Mojave.

Seriously considering picking up one of the newer Mac mini’s. This being out now is just one more push towards doing that soon.

I ended up buying a trash can since I was not sure when they would get it fixed. I wonder if this update would have made the Mac upgrade a waste.

You need to be on 10.13.6 or later to fully appreciate the improved efficiencies.

With a little sloth work I have 10.13.6 with a HDX Card and Pro Tools 2019.5 running on a 2009 Mac Pro 4,1

I don't have any damn plan to call them...don't think I pay for it. And it's intermittent. Just had it crash a minute ago using the warp feature. Pissing me off.

Yes. Was I not supposed to? I was curious... I let my plan expire on accident, so have not updated yet. I was thinking that it may not run efficiently on an older os.

I would occasionally have a crash with 2018.4, but it’s happening a lot with 2019.

I'll be glad when there's an update. I've crashed about 4 times today.

I am probably having 5 crashes a day. Worst version of PT's I've ever used.

I've never considered reaper until today, but in my preliminary research I'm starting to think it might be the answer.
...now I'm scared...I don't even know what kind of engineer I am without pro tools...
