So I screwed myself by clicking the wrong box once?
Lovely.
as far as I know I bought lifetime licences. I’d like those honoured.
Cheers, Geoff

Darn! I thought "Every Waves plugin $29" meant you could have ALL of them for $29. Chris

Never updated my DAW. Well, maybe I did. I suck. I probably did, now that you mention it. But like a minor upgrade to Logic. Upgraded the OS and upgraded Logic. And then Waves Central. As far as I know the plug never changed. In my view, if the plug didn’t change, it wasn’t upgraded. I should still be able to use my “lifetime” license. Basically soured me on plugs in general, not just Waves. But never Waves. Never again. Essentially if you want to keep using Waves what you’re saying is you’re locked into your OS and DAW at that version at that moment in time unless you want to keep paying and keep paying. No thanks. I’ll buy hardware from now on, thanks. Cheers, Geoff

Aren’t they on V10 now? So, if I purchase one of these $29 deals, I’d be forced to update Waves Central to the latest V10 in order to download/authorize, which I then assume would make my V9 plugins not work until I payed their ransom...err...I mean Waves Update Plan? That about right? Depends on your os. If you have an older os you can still run the older v8/9 stuff too.

Hardware is forever.

Doesn't sound like you really understand/pay attention to the way they do things or when you upgrade DAW/OS (I don't mean that as an insult in any way...) so you might actually still have plugs you can use with your rig. And it's not a given that when you do upgrade your DAW, you lose your Waves stuff. Lots of times you don't. Every so often (like when PT went AAX from RTAS) it happens. Worth checking if you want those plugs. But I agree that hardware is better.

Not even this can tempt me to "go Waves".

I got out of sync with WUP when they held out on going 64-bit for so long. By the time they moved to 64-bit, most of my plugs had lapsed in WUP, and then they introduced whatever license center thing they use now, and abandoned iLok.
I have quite a few Waves plugs that I would only have access to if I re-WUP, but essentially none of them would be my first choice for plugins these days: The API Collection, the V-Series, The JJP Collection, CLA comps, etc. They would just be nice to have back for recall of old sessions.
Ironically enough, the ones I actually wish I still had are things like RVox or Super-Tap delay. Just clean, get-the-job-done tools.
I find the WUP system so frustrating.

Musicians bundle 2 has those in i think. Mark. I finally got a chance to use a voucher so plugs were only $20 each

The real kicker would be if WUP were $29 for the next two days. I would get back at least a dozen plugins. And then I’d buy a couple as a “thank you” to Waves. Me too as long Wup is that high for a single bundle I don't buy Waves... Even not at 29 bucks. Because the day will come they will charge 200 Wup. So the cheap 29 bucks turn out to be a very bad deal...

I only have one plugin at v9 and a few at v10. I'm considering rebuying the old one at $29 just to upgrade it I'm interested in a few plugins but would like some opinions on them, preferably negative! PuigTec: I only have one Pultec style plugin, Logic's new one. I have hardware though: Retro 2A3 and A-Designs EM-PEQ. PuigChild: the only Fairchild style plugin I have is Slate's buss comp. No hardware here! Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter: I think it might come in handy? I own some hardware too. Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain: people seem to love it, not sure if I will use it though. CLA-2A: is it good enough? I had the Stam SA2A and I didn't love it. CLA-3A: same question! I have two Golden Age Comp-3A which are fantastic. Experiences welcome!

Won't have the same mood. The LA3A waves is nice though. I use it a ton. Probably not as cool as your hardware but definitely adds good stuff to anything you put it on. La2a is okay. I don't have a lot to compare it too other than real hardware and it's nothing like that. But does well for thickening up a bit and I use it in parallel frequently on vocals. Tg master chain is also nice. But I mostly love it for the midside eq and the built in limiter with parallel processing. I use it quite often as well but lived without it before and could today too. I used the puigtec stuff a long time ago..like v7 lol. Didn't impress me then.

I certainly wasn’t expecting what I was doing would result in losing them. We’re going back a few years ago now. I haven’t upgraded anything since specifically so I didn’t lose anything more. I’ll see if I can’t go back to a previous version of Waves central, but I think I needed to upgrade it to buy/use whatever the last plug of theirs that I bought was, and that’s where I lost stuff. Meanwhile missing out on oodles of upgrades to Logic. But honestly, I’ll go back and try a couple things to see if I can access them via a previous version of Waves central, but I’m ready to just write them off and move on. No more Waves for me. The world will keep on spinning. Cheers, Geoof

In the end I decided not to give Waves too much money and I got just the CLA-3A and the TG mastering desk.

I bought a few today. I bought the Gold bundle a long time ago and bought a bunch of other Waves stuff over the years.
My thoughts:
Abbey Road Chamber- I liked the short decay chamber. Also, I liked you could change the type of chamber to get warmer sound. I used it like a room reverb and it sounded great. Not as wide as your Typical Studio A reverb. I like my UAD EMT 250 better for a long decay vocal reverb.
SSL G Bus Compressor: Sounded great on both drum and mix bus. I sold my hardware Smart C2. Not as warm, but still very good.
LA3A Compressor: Bright, but what the hell. It's a different flavor.
TG Mastering. Versatile and effective. I needed a mastering chain and for $29.00 it was a no brainer.
Tried the Pie Compressor. Found it nice, but not better than both my Waves and UAD LA2A. So, I passed. I've got so many compressors.
Tried the NX virtual room over headphones. I'm never going to mix solely on headphones and didn't feel it was appreciably better going back and forth from speakers to headphones.

Lots of presets as starters that made the mix I was using deeper, brighter, warmer etc. I didn't have time to dive into it all the controls, but the presets showcased it's versatility. Sold me.

Grabbed the ADT plugin. Couldn’t pull the trigger I on the TG Mastering Desk. I know myself. I’d probably never use it. Plus, I’m betting it’ll be $29 again someday.

I wonder if anyone actually ever pays full price for these plugins? I mean, how pissed would you be at yourself if you paid $200 for this only to see it on sale for $29?

We used to pay more. I did when plugs first got useable. The frequency of sale prices means the market is setting actual value, and the volume of sales must be better than it was then, or developers would go out of business.

I can never get the silly combersone process to get previous versions working to work so I just passed.
Ease of use is a big factor for me, mostly ignore all Waves adds.
