Anyone try these yet? The tom track was impressive in the video. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Haven't tried it but the gate in Slate Trigger 2 is the best drum gate I've ever heard. Lots of people have been asking for that gate as a standalone. I bet this is that expanded and I bet it's very good.

The extra features seem tailored to drum usage. Do you enjoy using vmr, have just gotten used to it or find it a pain ?

People still use gates in this day and age of infinite editing?
Who knew!

Slate's version looks cool, too....though the ability to learn a SPECIFIC bleed sound to ignore on Harrison's can be priceless.

Y the time I figure out how to use this with app the little hands and listen buttons, I could have cut the toms up.

for over 20 years I gated, cut, edited, trimmed and cleaned out tomtom tracks.
Then last year.
I stopped.
When properly mic'ed with good mics, the natural resonance of the toms and their added presence to the entire sound of the kit is now something that has become part of my tracking. Example, just a minute long little instagram-ish video of aligning kick and snare but the drums are wide open when the kick snare and bass aren't soloed <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fcomfortcovesound%2Fvideos%2F374361319817136%2F&show_text=0&width=476" width="476" height="476" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" allowFullScreen="true"></iframe>

And here I thought this was some sex scandal Steven found himself in the middle of. ericn, that's the first noise _gate_ joke I've ever heard. I appreciated it, even as it might have been better if you'd said Steven had colluded with someone, AVID, Berhinger, Harmon, I dunno, Putin?

In my memory, and when I recorded in the top commercial studios in the 70's and 80's, gating toms became fashionable when automation came in, engineers would write console mutes on tom tracks, in between vocal phrases, etc. The idea was to create a background of sonic black against which the audio elements would emerge. Then consoles had gates on every channel strip and mixes got even punchier. Pre-DAW of course.
But before that, every open mic was included in a mix.

I have to try it. Bought Slate trigger just for gate section. Works so nicely and musically. So if this one is in the same league then it is a direct purchase.

What am I missing in Trigger with the gate thing? I’ve honestly never played with it...but on mine none of the controls move and nothing happens when I click the on/off button.

Do you have EX or Platinum? From memory EX has the button/knobs there but they don't work.

Bleed is a great asset on a well recorded and well tuned drums. !!! No kidding. The dark days of drum recording were the 'gate days'. 1983-1992. Which was, ironically, also the peak of popular music.
