Hi ladies (if they exist here) and gentlemen,
just a simple but complicated on the same time question: regarding a parametric eq for recording/mixing, so with separate knobs for q, gain and frequency controls, do you prefer it with 2U or 3U chassis?
thanks best regards Pier Paolo

Are you asking if people value rack space vs. finger room?

Hi Pier! Great to see you here.
Assuming this means 3 bands per channel at least in a stereo box?
I'd think you could fit maybe 3-5 bands in a 2u chassis possibly. If its all stepped controls like a mastering EQ then 3U is good.

thanks for replaies
the eq is stereo and has 5 bands per channel. it is based on the classic state variable filter, this one has been used on amek angela, Barry Porter NetEQ, Urei 545 ...and some other ones. It uses DOA's on input receiver and on the eq amplifier and BTW it uses ic opamps on the cells. Pier Paolo

Are you asking if people value rack space vs. finger room? Yes, it is But the is saving space so important even with parametric eqs?

Sounds awesome!
I'd say if it's for mixing then 2u is good. Mastering version with stepped controls in 3u

With a 2u chassis and by using 0.59 inch (15mm) knobs for all controls there is around 0.55 inch (14 mm) of space for fingers between these knobs, not so much. But the problem of space could be for labels too, I guess.
Usually eqs use big knobs for gains and small ones for each q control, so I am thinking to use 0.43 inch (11mm) knobs for the q controls and 0.59 inch (15mm) knobs for the other ones, just to get a bit of bigger space for fingers and labels.
