You can do it two ways. If you only want to monitor one thing, you can “port” an input directly to an output, and send that to headphones. If I recall, one input can be multed to multiple outputs but only one input is allowed per output.
Or, you can use the onboard mixer to create an aux mix and send that aux to an output or pair of outputs.

There’s a setup preconfigured called live recording with monitor mixing. Start there.
Otherwise, first go to the routing / IO matrix and make sure you’re routing the inputs you want to monitor to the mixer.

Nothing is automatically routed to the mixer, or anywhere else. Super flexible once you wrap your head around it.

Yes. It’s takes a little while to figure out. Read manual, watch tutorials, etc. Everything has to be routed. It’s no worse than the RME onboard mixer included with my former interface (FF400). Hang in there; it’s worth it.

I messed with it some more. I have signal routed to the mixer, Im seeing signal on the routing page to the mixer, but I cant get any signal out to the analog outs from the mixer page.. I guess Im closer but still no cigar.

I guess Im closer but still no cigar. Halfway there. Now back to the router page and route the mixer outs to the analog outs and you’re there!

Here's another thing that I don't think has changed:
For Mac, go to AudioMIDI Setup / output / configure speakers, and select the channels you want to be main output. It will be auto-selected for 1 and 2. This is non-apparent, I had to point it out to MOTU early on in the AVB release. There may be a newer more direct method to access this, not sure.

If you’re using ProTools, the PT setup can also influence what’s going on.

I will try again today. It appeared the app wasnt retaining my changes. It would sometimes crash / loose connection. But even if it didnt if I closed the app and re opened it would revert back to the old settings. Do you need to save settings everytime?

I seem to remember using Chrome browser and logging in (typing a IP address) when I originally set this up? Does anyone know the address? I might have a note somewhere...

I use Firefox, but I'm sure Chrome and just about any other major browser would work fine. Just be sure you have scripting available for that address (disable if you use something like NoScript add-on).

Ok.... MOTU support to the rescue. Great support BTW. We had to factory reset the hardware, something must have gone cocoa puffs with a firmware update, all sorted. I was starting to think I’ve learned nothing over the years. For once not user error. Thanks everyone!
