Never gotten the chance to try this out...but I’ve had a couple people say it can get a little bright...but bluegrassdan ‘s vocal recordings sound amazing. I’m sure the pre helps. But what’s the general take?

Yes, the ones that were sent here years ago were a little bright. Find that Horch, Bock & Wunder are a bit darker.

You'd have to pry my Flea 47 from my cold dead hands. I've never used the mics aremos mentioned so I can't compare to those, but to every other mic I've ever used, the Flea is miles ahead. I don't find it especially bright at all. The top end is smooth and the bottom is nice and full as a 47 should be. Vincent R. used my Flea 47 in a recent video which I'll post below. I'm also going to insert the video shootout that I must have listened to a couple of hundred times while working up the courage to drop more than $3k on a microphone (I'm pretty sure I hadn't cracked even the $1k point on a mic up until then).

Vincent knows allot about the Flea mic's. I tried a Wunder CM7 next to a Flea 47 last fall and preferred the Flea 47 without question. It was not bright at all but perfectly balanced. I liked this Video also of them, especially the female vocal on it around the 7 minute mark

BradD has one, a lot of it comes down to K47 or M7.

I find my Flea 47 to be not at all bright. It is exactly what you would expect in a good 47. I don’t think you would be disappointed. Shoot me a PM if you’d like to hear mine sometime.

Never bright, but somewhat "reedy" in the 1.5k - 3k range, which I sometimes EQ downward a bit on some sources. I don't suspect the bottom end is quite a huge as a real 47 in top condition. Randy LeRoy says his is just a tad brighter than their original 47, but he seems to like it.
It has worked on everything I've ever put in front of it.
I am determined to own an original U47 or U48 very soon. Only then will the Flea be replaced (and only in order to help finance the purchase).

I’ve got my eye on a Flea 47...Del McCoury has a Telefunken U47 he bought from Blackbird that was chosen over about 10 others...figure that be a good A/B! It used to live at our studio but as they’ve become more and more expensive I made him take it home with him.
Either a Flea 47 EF12 or Bock 407 are my next buy

Firstly, I preface this by saying the closest I've gotten to using an original U47 was a Wagner U47W, which was assembled from all NOS parts, had an original M7, BV8, and a VF14 tube. jtc111 has had his FleA 47 over here a couple of times and I'm hoping to borrow it in the next couple of weeks to record a new video. The FleA had a sweeter high end. To call it bright is not the right term. My Peluso 2247SE was bright. Like my FleA 49 which does not have the AC701k, the FleA 47 with the EF12 lacks a bit of the low end that the VF14 gave to the Wagner. I don't have any clips of them next to each other and when I used the Wagner I was at a friend’s studio recording through the SSL Super Analogue channel strip into a Soundtracs Console, into an Antelope Orion 32. What I did with the FleA 47 was done here through my Apollo preamps into my apollo and wouldn't properly sonically match what I did with the Wagner.
mike commented above about his recent mic tests. He did a few with the FleA47, CM7, and his WA47 and I immediately called out which was the FleA. It sounded the most vintage and balanced. The CM7 sounded a bit more modern, and the WA47 sounded more like an EQed and finished recording.
sean , I've heard the Bock 407 is also a bit more modern sounding, but damn does it sound great in this shootout:
A: Bock 407
B: Manley Ref Gold
C: Telefunken USA U47
D: Telefunken ELA M 251E
When I first saw the shoot out I immediately liked A&D for different reasons.
I’ve said this a bunch of times, once you start getting into the 4K and up replicas it’s not about if they sound good, it’s about if that company’s ideal 47, 49, 251, etc meets with your expectation of the ideal 47, 49, 251, etc.
