I hope it's OK to post this, but I was just so floored that I needed to share it. Probably out of the wheelhouse of many of you, but for me, it clicks so many sweet spots. i.e. Great musicianship. One mic only (Samar). One Mic Pre only (Silver Bullet). One stereo conversion only. All live. No EQ, No Verb, No Nothing. All one take. So many things to love about it for me. I hope it's OK with our A.E. brother - Johan that I share this..... What a KILLER engineer he is. from Johan : soundcloud.com/mintelligence/lmix/s-mAaFMAbove, a short clip showing what the Silverbullet preamp is up to.
The recording was done in Sept 2017 using my Silverbullet VoidCorp edition, with a Rouge2-prototype board used on the A-section.
Mic: Samar VL373A, active stereo ribbon A/D: Lynx Hilo DAW: Sequoia 14
Recording location is a 12th century stone church in Länna, one hour drive north/east of Stockholm, Sweden. Four mucians (violin/cello/qanon/ney flute), all with a mid-east background (Iraq/Turkey/Syria), are literally playing together for the first time during this session.
Enjoy!

Well, that took talent!! HOE LEEEEE Yeah, gives you a little perspective after an hour or two of tuning vocals and beat detectiv-izing drums, eh? PS - love that mic. I MUST have one. Or two.

Spectacular. Absolutely nothing getting in the way of the musicians in that space.

It's a fine mic. I've used the stereo ribbon (Mark's original proto--not a production mic) and it's really lovely. I own a VL37A that I use for classical music. Most recently used it on a Steinway D as the side mic (with a Schoeps MK-21 as mid). It's really a sweet mic. There's a real musical sense in Mark's approach. I'm looking forward to trying out his new condenser this summer.

Sounds great drbill.I haven't kept up with things. I thought the Silver Bullet was a kind of tape emulation. Now I see it is a preamp. Well, it sure sounds pro to me.

Sounds incredible! Am now tempted to sell my TG2 to get one of those pres, the features look very cool. Is the only difference with the black edition the colour?

And it is both API/Neve Mic Pre's as well as line amps - Making it great for micing instruments, mix buss processing, tracking, re-amping, etc.. It's a multi purpose box. It's also got EQ and filters and killer metering. It's a bit of a swiss army knife box. No tape emulation. Essentially we categorize it as a 2 channel console. For all intents and purposes giving you the sound / sonics of two very iconic vintage consoles without the cost, size, cabling, etc.. Hermetech - not only pre's, but mastering processing as well. Lots of mastering guys are using these on their 2 buss mastering chain. The only difference in current Silver Bullets on the "void corp" edition that Johan used is the front panels. HOWEVER - he was using a prototype DOA on the API side of the box that does not come standard in any Silver Bullets at this point. At this point.... Brad may make these available. There is a huge groundswell for them at this point. It' starting to sound like "clean" is the new "colored. The standard Rogue 5 Opamps are a BIT more colored than the rogue 2's that were in for this recording. Not a huge difference IMO.

Feel free to give me a call - I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. If you are only interested in the preamp features of the Silver Bullet, a pair of Chromas could be a better fit since there's a little more gain on tap for each "A" and "N" mode. Silver Bullet is definitely more versatile when you consider 2-bus, workflow, and EQ capabilities. cheers, Brad

Clearly I need to do a better with marketing and explaining the functions of the box. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hear that the SB was a tape emulator? It's primarly a 2-bus tone-shaping Mojo box.... a 2-channel dual personality console if you will, as Bill mentioned. cheers, Brad

Yeah that room reverb is outrageously good. It does remind me a bit of soundtracks.
It's amazing who cares anyway just give me the op amp!! I'm joking of course. But I do like clean op amps lately. I've got a few here that I use with my Carnhill I/O mic pre from Five Fish.

Hi Brad, I was probably just confusing the Silver Bullet with one of the other products mentioned here. A 2 bus tone shaper sure sounds like a good idea to me. I liked it when I had Pultecs on the 2 bus, but had to sell. So a more flexible tone shaper sounds brilliant to me. I prefer to get the sound I want first and not leave too much to mastering.
