Look at all that u67 love. It is simply undeniable. That velvet, that silk, that creamy thickness with the saturation on top. You know you want it. You know you need it. You know...
...you have to have it.

If we are talking a 67 that sounds like a 67 but just looks different, I will take the $1500 any day. There could be a 3k version for the other folks, but no one can see my mic when they are listening to the record.

Let’s face it, u67s in the hands of more recordists could mean improving the sound of the industry on a much larger scale. And it could all be thanks to you. U 67 FOREVER ON 3 READY!? 1! 2! 3!!! ....................

Now the trick is the transformer. It’s true... there’s not a lot of good options for a k67 style capsule. And don’t worry about the transformer — we got that 😉

If you can make a go of that one, it will put you on top. BUT....it's a big bite to take. Plus, as much as I love 67's, I think the 67 mania is a little over the top these days.

The mania is definitely a bit over the top. Mostly due to semi pro guys like me and so many serious home recordists now wanting a rare sound that happens to be very good. If it were easy to get, no matter how good, ppl wouldn't be as crazy for it.

Plus, as much as I love 67's, I think the 67 mania is a little over the top these days. But the quality offerings just aren't there. I want one and I've yet to buy one. So far, what I've heard is sorta 67esque but not 67. There's always something missing. I was willing to go $3300 for my Flea because to my ears there's nothing missing in that sound. I listen and I don't hear 47esque; I hear 47. It doesn't have the weak bottom or the one dimensional highs that the sub $3k clones have. The bottom is there, the mids are there, the highs are there. If someone can do that for the 67, I'd drop $3k on it.

FWIW, I prefer my Flea 47 over the Neumann Reissue 67.

All the demos I've heard have been disappointing. But I think the mic (the reissue) is there.

As someone alluded to before, isn't the 87/67 headbasket patented , if that's the case then it's not something able to be copied one for one.
And I'll day again that cheap bodies put me right off. BeesNeez and Rode irrespective of what you think of the sound both make high quality proprietary bodies so it can be done.
Cheers, Ross

I didn't specify it but I was referring to mics in the $1500-$3000 range since that's what this conversation has been about. If $7k is the only way I get through that door, I'll live without it.

Well if patents are no issue then make both a u87 and 67 with perfect body and a quality cradle.
Hypothetically, the 87 @ 1850 - 2000, 67 around 2,500 roughly. If they are up to snuff you've only one body to worry about. I'd be tempted to start there.
Ah , this mic building is so easy....

You know... ...you have to have it. The M49 is closing in! 15 votes for u67 and 14 for m49. Honestly the m49 would be a lot easier for a few reasons, but I’d kind of like to do something with a non k47 or m7 for our next LDC....

I'll change my vote from a C12 to an M49 if that would help. Make it a 249 and I'll get someone else to vote too....
