The latest Dan Worrall video is a goodie (he popped up on here a while back too). It might make you reconsider using some of the DAW built in EQs...

I really love the UAD Massenburg for non-surgical natural sounding stuff.

I really love the UAD Massenburg for non-surgical natural sounding stuff. Something about that EQ is magic. It like there’s no side effects, no hangover as much as you push it, just natural and pure essence of EQ. For tone stuff I like UAD Pultec, Helios, Harrison, Neve, Sie-Q is very nice but watch out, it does distort. Not sure how the person before said they use on 2 bus, unless they run very low levels through it or use that as an effect. For general purpose Softube Console stock SSL or Pro-Q.

I did some research on the UAD Massenburg and Jantex ripped it to shreds on gearslutz for various problems. Not subjective stuff either. Curious if anyone hear read what he said. No one there refuted what he found.
I'm trying out the VSE-2 from Vertigo and liking it. Seems to work as advertised. Clean but allows for you to add harmonics and give it a more precise analog vibe. Retains transients well, so I can dial back or deactivate Envolution.

I find the Elysia Museq to be pretty cool for an ITB tone shaping EQ.

I just picked up a new EQ today. Been testing it for a few days. I was looking for a simple digital EQ for transparent (sort of) EQ adjustments. I have tons of EQs with color and I've been bouncing between Waves F6 and DMG EQuick for times where I just need some plain old EQ. This one is very good and definitely worth having a look at. Crave EQ

Fortunately it is not very expensive at all $69 USD. I think I'm all set now. (famous last words) I'm glad I sold a couple PA speakers last week. Those paid for some fun new toys.

Prob UAD 550A or SSL channel mkII for general stuff. DMG Equilibirum for anything precise.

He says Equilibrium is much better. Then he posted some plugin doctor results. I forget if anyone proved him wrong, I didn't find anything when I was researching those Massenburg plugins.

So it warps the LPF? To me, it sounds really good...but I don’t ever nerd out that hard I’ve never noticed the noise floor, but that makes me want to check a couple of EQs.

I really love Harrisons 32c in Mixbus, I use it with their Mastering EQ and the AVA LegacyEQ. Cool stuff. If I just need a cpu-friendly surgical digital EQ, I am digging the ReaEQ. I love the ReaPlug suite. Silly good stuff in there and totally free. I use their EQ, the multiband comp and even their delay, this stuff just works and is light on CPU. If I need some specialists, because I can't get it right otherwise, good analog style saturation that does the trick sometimes, I use the Acustica Audio's PinkCM or PTEq-X from Ignite lately. Both are free but do the job quite well for me. The TDR stuff is good, I already loved Bootsie's stuff before, but I use them less in the meantime and stay by the stuff my DAW already offers and above plugins... For me the TDR stuff is more like for mastering purposes IMHO. Sometimes I use their EQ in the master bus, but it does not always work for me...

Wow - the Plugin Doctor is really interesting. He's right, the Massenburg dumps at 20khz...but I haven't gotten past 14 in years lol. I'm finding it really useful to confirm what I'm hearing with tape sims.

Very good, but have had an eye on a couple of others of late; mostly the Pro Q 3. Probably not to replace the ReaEQ but to have other options. -09

Yeah same, I love that DMG make these crazy deep tools, and I'm a big fan of EQuilibrium and use Limitless every day, but sometimes stuff is just too deep and leaves me scratching my head. It's why I'm probably not gonna even demo this.

I had a nice result with the Dan Worall video.
I preferred the zero dollar ReaEQ over the $200 Fab Filter in every A/B blind comparison.
Just downloaded the Rea Plug pack. Haven't tested it yet.
Workflow may or may not favor the Pro Q, I'll have to see.
Features obviously tilt the hand to FabFilter.

Can someone explain to me what warping when approaching nyquist means? And while you are at it.....what exactly is this noise floor you speak of in a digital plugin?

Maybe you are referring to the type of S to Z domain transformation used for developing the plugin?
Anytime you model a digital plugin from an analog filter you need to warp the frequencies using something such as a Bi-Linear transformation process. Is that what your talking about? (No i didn’t just google this and write the first thing that came up. I went to grad school for EE / DSP, even though not currently doing for career)

Can someone explain to me what warping when approaching nyquist means? Easier to see it: As you increase the frequency the slope "bunches" up high.
