Looks like PA changed their transfer policy. Licenses will become NFR after one transfer, meaning if you buy/bought a second hand PA plugin, you can't resell it.
Adios, PA. I stopped buying UAD plugins because of their reselling policy, and now I will no longer be purchasing PA software. I've already got a few of their best ones anyways.

It's retroactive as well, so those second-hand licenses you bought a year ago can't be sold now.
They're also limiting the number of licenses that can be transferred per month.

How is it even possibly legal to do this retroactively? Changing the license policy at any time without notification is probably part of their EULA.

The wording is a little odd and hard to understand. One part says if it was transferred to you, it can't be sold, but then in the next sentence it states that a plugin can only be sold twice. That would tell me that if you bought it second hand, you can sell it, but the next person can't. It's kind of goofy but I understand they want to push new sales instead of only getting transfer fees. On other forums, people say they will drop their PA plugins. I use mine everyday. BX_Console is used a ton and I'd rather keep it anyway.
It is a bit disappointing how software does not retain any value. I bought a mini moog in the 80's and sold it for more than I bought it for nearly 20 years later. Plugins that are over a few years old are basically worthless. I've lost a fortune in plugins that I can't even give away due to policies and the fact that they have been eclipsed by all the newer tech.

The "sold twice" bit appears to apply to the original purchaser (I think it was to combat people buying multiple copies of the same plugin to resell?). The more restrictive policy apparently applies for transferees. I have a couple of PA licenses that I got from the original purchaser, and I verified this morning that they're not available to be transferred.

How is it even possibly legal to do this retroactively? Why not just retroactively say “your license now expires 1 year after purchase and you will have to repurchase it at twice the cost in order to continue to use?” No more PA for me either! You may have payed for software like you bought it, but in fact you bought a license to use it and agreed to their constant changing terms. In effect you don’t own it you rent it they can change the lease. At best one might be able to argue you own the Version you originally payed for, but any updates after that are them being nice. So yeah it sucks .

Changing the license policy at any time without notification is probably part of their EULA. Well obviously that is to be assumed - but that doesn't automatically make it legal. EULA's are struck down all the time (as are NDAs, pre-nuptial agreements, etc.) especially in Europe. If no one comes forward with sufficient spare time and money to challenge it in court, then it really doesn't matter whether it's legal or not.

Looks like PA has reversed their NFR policy. Announced it was a mistake, and will be reversed.
Interestingly, I discovered that Spectrasonics and Pianoteq have a NFR policy after one sale.

I immedistely unsubscribed to their newsletter the moment I found out about their stunt, so I guess that they got the message...the unsubscribe here is mightier than the sword.
