What are all you all's thoughts on the clone wars? Not the Star Trek thread you were hoping for, these are not the droids you were looking for.
1176: Mohog, Warm, KT, Stam, Audi-Scape, UA Others?
1073: Heritage, BAE, Vintech, Warm, KT, Stam, others?
La2a: Audio-Scape, Stam, Warm, ADL, UA others?
SSL Buss: Audio-Scape, Stam, others?
LA3a: Mohog, Serpent, UA others?
Tube EQ: Warm, Audio-Scape, KT others?
anything I'm forgetting that is of significant importance?

Not sure what you’re asking...you want to know which we find the best? Or just compiling a list of what’s out there?
You can add GAP to your list for 1073, la3a, and I think they have an 1176

You can add GAP to your list for 1073, la3a, and I think they have an 1176 I left it open for all of our thoughts. For example, what's the best 1176 clone in A A/B D F G revisions? What are the thoughts on the quality of components for each? Price point? Build quality? And yes, add other manufacturers' options! Thanks for starting the replies.

Cannibalism at the edge of a black hole?
There’s a lot of room for original thought, but little being done. I think the CAPI FC526 counts as evolution/original thought, as did the LC53A.

Shows a sad lack of original ideas, IMO.

The Hairball 1176 kits are fantastic imo. If you are able to assemble it’s a hell of a piece of kit.

The Dramastic is all stepped so it’s good for recall, the Wes Audio can be used as just hardware, or controlled from a plugin which is totally badass and makes it even better for recall. Your settings are saved in you session etc

I'm interested in this as well. Having owned a lot of brand hardware , I'm interested in finding out how well the clones compete AND how they compete with the software.
FYI : Of all my gear I'm selling , the most popular item was the API 2500. I ws surprised by that as it seems to have fallen off the hype wagon on the gear sites.

I feel like the drop off in hype on the 2500 maybe has at least a little to do with the most recent price hike API introduced. The 2500 is good, but is it $3130 good?

It's confusing, and strange. I need an adult.
Seriously I'm looking at DIY options, and possibly some of the KT stuff as the prices reach rock bottom.
A big part of me wants to fill up my racks, every space, and then just stop thinking about it for a long time.

Serpent for 4000 and DIYRACKED.
Hairball and serpent for 1176
Not sure on opticals, I'm sure the serpent is good. More of an la3a though.
I've only used a vintech and liked it.
Kind of crazy how our industry is mostly 3 styles of mic pres(neve,API,super clean(Grace ect)) and the same main compressors.
But hey if it ain't broke done fix it! Ha

It really is a lack of imagination, in a market that isn't really addressing an industry so much anymore, but hobbyists looking for shortcuts. The dbx 160 was on the short list for years, seems it's recently dropped off....because there's no clone. There's so much other great older gear that isn't today's cliche.

1176: Used to have a Warm, got the Vintage Audio M76 (by Revive Audio). Sounds perfect to me. 1073: Golden Age Pre 73 mkIII, upgraded it with Carnhill transformers and added the EQ module just because. I think it sounds really great! LA2A: waiting for a Stam unit, hopefully sometime this year. SSL buss: Got the Tk Audio BC1-S. Killer! LA3A: Pair of Golden Age Comp 3A. Nothing to complain about. Some people I know thing they're as good as the real thing. Tube EQ: Retro 2A3, a thing of beauty.

I have a TNC ACMP84. The feature set is killer, but it’s much brighter than my Dan Alexander, a reracked 1290 preamp. I actually prefer my Unison UAD 1073 to it sonically. Revive audio can mod it and I have been debating that for a while.

And what about clone mics? I need to build up that locker a bit more and am shuddering at the prices of the classics
