Amazing work Dr sax. Honored that Zulu is on a #1 record and always tickled at your application of it. On horns it rules and many other places. This is what it's all about right? You can damn near shop for everything your studio needs on RGO and get a #1 record. The song itself is badass. I really wasn't thinking about the gear after 2 seconds in. This joint is bumpin'and it definitely has that OG vibe to it. Stacy Adams with a glass of Crown Royal (as we say Roy-yal). Or as my uncle would say "This is cold." Great work! Thanks -L. Langston While a great showcase of the Zulu, isn’t that the way it should be, we get lost in the music and forget the gear, in many ways that’s the biggest compliment a piece of gear can get we don’t think about it.

Thanks for the very kind words Langston. Yeah it’s cool how technology has brought us all to a place like RGO where we can interact like this. You hit the nail on the head and ericn too - getting lost in the music is what it’s all about!! We all know how crazy the business of music can be so every moment we get to spend enveloped purely in the music is so precious. That is my favorite place to be when creating and I wish I could find a way to spend even more time in that zone. Zulu and other great gear has added to that “getting lost.” So thank YOU! I am lucky I get to get lost in the music while creating it and then get lost again while mixing it

I found out today that another one of my tunes just hit #1 on Billboard. Big props to some of the great cats and companies here on the forum whose gear I absolutely love!!! It makes such a difference having great analog gear to use. I had the pleasure of being a featured artist on sax, producing, mixing, mastering and co-writing this. My friend Blake Aaron the guitarist is a beast!! spock Chandler REDD Mic on Sax illacov Zulu on Sax[ BradM and drbill Silver Bullet on Mix Buss and mastering Drew @ UA - 4 BF Apollo’s and 2 Octo Satellites. UAD plug-ins galore. UA is all over this track I'll be the only guy on here to ask this: mouthpiece, horn, reed? lol

Good God, the bass and kick are unbelievably tight. Did you line them up, or did they just play that way. Such fine musicianship there, and a perfect production. Congrats Drsax!

Muchos gracias Martin John Butler - no lining up or time adjustments in the bass or drums. You’re hearing the timing just as they recorded it. They are killer musicians!! I’m so fortunate to get to work with them. And better yet, they are some of my closest friends. A huge blessing

Nice engineering and playing Darren. Sounds great on YouTube. Congrats on the hit! Like listening to what you do.
For UAD hardware and software, the Chandler Redd Mic, a sweet affirmation of capability. For the Silver Bullet and Zulu, Sonic Hit Confirmation for two products, for other than their owners and users, remain today relatively secret weapons.

If we're talking about some love for manufacturers, I gotta say Adam Fiori at Chandler was amazing to deal with. He went above and beyond to help me while I had it for a week. One of these days I hope to own one. I could live with their mic for the rest of my days and not feel I was missing something.

Thanks a bunch donr - and yeah, good tools make a difference! We are blessed to have tools like these available to us. SB & Zulu both offer big sonic gains and are absolute steals at their price point. The REDD Mic is Insane and I agree w Martin John Butler - their customer service is crazy good.

Hey Darren, Sorry I'm late to the party over here. Congrats on the success of this song! It's well deserved. I have a feeling you would have nailed it without any of this great gear. It's hard to go wrong with lots of talent in the room. I'm stoked for you guys. Thanks for taking a chance on the Silver Bullet a year and a half ago and helping spread the word. I really appreciate that immensely. Brad

I have had a lot of gear come through my studio, not all of it has stayed. But the Silver Bullet... even in the short time I’ve had it, it’s easily one of my desert island pieces. If I could only keep one Outboard piece, most likely the SB would make the cut. The SB and one great versatile Outboard stereo/dual mono compressor would cover most anything with zero compromise. I hope to add one or two more down the road. Still have my fingers crossed for that!

Hey Doc, very complete and so tidy- big congrats. The tight bass playing is one of those things you've either got or you haven't and no amount of tweaking is going to achieve it. Having said that, what comp and eq did you use on the bass - I'm picking not much as so much is in the fingers, right? Cheers, Ross

Cheers, Ross thanks so much reddirt - yes, of course like anything else, the player is everything. I did use some healthy compression still to get it sitting where I wanted it in the mix. I used an Innertube Audio Atomic Squeezebox into an A Designs EMPEQ on Mel’s Bass. That’s my favorite bass chain.
