I’ve got the original multichannel version of this. The Clarity M. And love it. It’s great to always have an accurate visual for levels and phase.
To me it no big deal to use a plug in for this....
I’ve got some good metering plugs. For me this solution is more comprehensive, more immediate, takes no screen space, is optimally positioned and also includes some other handy features. It’s also much more elegant. It’s always on and has been very useful. It gets used significantly more than my metering plugs ever did. I’ve also noticed some differences in accuracy of true peak metering. This seems more accurate and catches intersample peaks better than my plugs.

So does it work differently depending on how you install it? I.e., is there a difference between using the optical outs of your interface and the usb connection? There's gotta be, right? It looks like you can insert it like a plug in, but you couldn't use optical outs for that, could you? When connected digitally (optical) it simply provides accurate metering, phase or frequency analysis in realtime for whatever source is being fed to it. When connected via plugin, you can insert the plugin on your Master Buss or... on individual tracks if you want to use the metering or frequently analyzer/phase check during tracking or on individual tracks. Using the usb/plugin, the audio is fed through the usb cable. It makes it quick if you want to switch sources, just take the plug off your Master Buss and move it to any individual track. Works great either way it’s connected.

I don't suppose there are any analog inputs? nope - though it does also have AES and GPI inputs as well - all digital. Given the fact that it can run as a plug, I was wondering if the processing is done by the unit or the computer. On the other hand, if it can run solely from optical I/O then it must be at the unit. Come to think of it, at the $250 price point it's hard to imagine that it would be able to support analog inputs because it would then have to also have A/D converters

Still I'm not surprised. Too bad though - it won't work with my console.

Not having analog inputs definitely cuts out about 0.5 % of the market.....they will definitely loose guys like John.

I do like my Dorrough meter, but there’s plenty of times it’s not getting what I need to see in the analog path.
Spectrafoo is great, and sitting there on another desktop, easy to flip to and back. Nice that it can configure to take any input from anywhere, internal or external, has grouping, etc.
Do I need this? Doubtful. But looks cool.
