Buy an Apollo interface and get $10 off a plug-in of your choice!!! Oh, but it can only be a Universal Audio plug-in.

My guess is a subscription plan. I’m sure that’s coming eventually. Sucks, cause I feel it devalues what I’ve already invested in their plugins. But I suppose it’s all rental. I don’t actually own those 1’s and 0’s. I just rent them, perpetually.

I was wondering just now,... What would it take for me to get back into UAD land...and sell off my hardware.
1. Subscription plan rather than purchasing plugs
2. Some sort of physical control system that gives me what I need in a tactile sense. Control surface for dealing with their plugs so it doesn't require me to mouse click and I can use two hands at once. Also, mute, and headphone and monitor level controls.
3. At least 8 AD DA plus monitor outputs
4. Enough DSP to run a full mixing setup at tracking stage at least, mixing stage as well would be better
cheers

I would hope there would be a pricing tier based on how many plugs you own.

Just occurred to me it’s probably just version 10 of the software.

The subscription plan possibility is a main reason why I sold out. But I think it will be the new apollo (mkiii and new OS (x) and many new software features too. Or Logic bought UA ?

A choice of Native and Sharc processing so you don't run out of DSP? Hardware Remote Control surface w integrated DAW that can be controlled by an app on your iPad and phone w/16 preamps/inserts/line in/ dedicated built in 4 cue send output feeds to the musicians and 1 extra for either another musician or control room cue send separate from any other I/O/dedicated monitor outs separate from 1-2 I/O, and everything in a two space unit w/enough processing to do unison preamps with 5 inserts on each channel simultaneously without breaking a sweat! The best part, making it affordable with a subscription plan that is affordable unlocking all plugs
And if you act now and order a plugin bundle for $1499 you can get 5 more UA(UA only)Plugins to complete your package deal, Stam will make sure you don't get it until January 2030, and they will throw in a pair of sexy SEX1 microphones! I really couldn't help it, sorry Joshua and Drew. Don't take offense, it's not meant to be condescending, just having fun.

I think they're just going to start selling expensive porn, that requires an old-fashioned crank-up computer to print out the pictures on that paper with the holes on the edges.

An interesting post from ua forum:
v9.6 was released two weeks ago. And since some new SHARC chips are announced I bet UA will put ou new hardware soon: Selection Table for SHARC Processors | Parametric Search | Analog Devices "New ADSP-SC57x/2157x multicore processors are the latest in a growing series of high-performance, power-efficient, real-time platforms that deliver greater than 6 giga-floating-point operations per second using two enhanced SHARC+ cores and advanced DSP accelerators."

Y'all see that post about FPGA over on GS in the UAD X thread? That's kind of interesting. Maybe UAD will be abandoning Sharc altogether or somehow using FPGA in combination with Sharc? I'm no expert on FPGA, so maybe this isn't of any real consequence, but I also know interfaces from other manufacturers DO use FPGA for their DSP, so maybe this is a big deal?. From the GS post: www.uaudio.com/jobs.html#hte

The problem with the current apollo 4 chip bottleneck is created by the current fpga processing limitation.
That is why I expect mkiii to have big internal processing increase, at least 100% to add more on board processing capacity and to last into the future ?

I think the implication was that the Sharc DSPs themselves might be replaced by FPGA. The bottleneck you describe is a whole other matter, at least as I understand it.

Ya, I am not certain who is right ? This was sort of asked at ua forum a while back , why apollo can't have more sharc dsp as there is lots of space. I think Gannon said it was a processing capacity issue related to the current fpga, not a physical space issue or by implication a sharc processing capacity issue ?

I didn't love math in school, even though I was good at it. So I chose to be musician instead of a computer programmer and when reading that article, I wondered how my life got to where I'm actually reading the info contained in that link. So, FPGA better for big jobs, DSP better for small. UAD's tasks are getting bigger, so change to FPGA is probable. Now someone tell me what the heck FPGA stands for.
