Alright, bear with me here as I’ve got limited knowledge on this...
I’ve read many interviews with Ry Cooder and others saying that for a while he would plug his guitar into an La-2a before it hit his amp on stage.
I’ve also recently come across a picture of him in the 70’s with an ADR Compex on stage next to his amps.
How would I go about modding an 1176 (hairball) to be able to use it for he low output of a guitar?
Any thoughts? Is this stupid to even bother trying?

Use a DI into the 1176 and a reamp out into the amp. Or grab one of these. origineffects.com/product/cali76-compact-deluxe/I have a buddie that has 2 because he likes them on both gigging pedal boards.

We have a few passive di’s from Bearsville - I’m gonna open one up and just check to see how it’s wired and grab a transformer and wire it up to see if I even dig the results.
I’ve looked into the pedals but basically don’t get a ton of use out of my 1176 anyway. Instead of spending a few hundred on a pedal figured I’d see if I can get more use out of he unit I already have.

The input impedance of the 1176 is much too low for a passive guitar. it might work with an active pickup or something, but the level might be too low. I think Jesse has it right, you'd need a DI box to get the level up and convert the impedance to something usable.

Yeah, definitely requires a DI.
