I'm trying to find a great way to integrate C1 into my workflow. Up until now I just moved it into my typical workflow as a plugin and used the controller on whichever tracks they corresponded to. Kind of like an analog mixing scenario in which much of the processing on some channels was on the desk and in other instances it's like you were going to other outboard for everything. I kind of clicked around and used the controller when appropriate but it didn't feel seamless or natural. So I'm experimenting.
How's everyone else integrating C1?
I've been trying to rely more on the controller and less on clicking to select tracks. I also kind of hate when I've got a bunch of tracks with a ton of space between the tracks with C1 on them. For example, a snare sum bus next to the snare top, snare bottom, and snare sample tracks. One C1 track and three spaces before the next C1-friendly track.
At this point, I've put all the tracks I'm using C1 on higher up in the project and the rest of the project lower in the edit window. The thought being "I'm mixing all these tracks and everything that feeds those tracks is somewhere else" - that somewhere else is further down the edit window. Some of the C1 tracks are single tracks but many of those are bus tracks (I'm using Reaper, so the tracks don't have to be defined as buses or audio tracks) where I'm combining sources - like snare top and bottom into one track or left/right guitars into a stereo track. I'm working this way so, theoretically, when I'm done editing I can just hide all the source tracks and mix using primarily C1 until I have to dive into more specialized stuff.
Half the time I consider throwing out my bussing scheme all together and just having all the individual tracks stacked at the top and literally just having C1 on EVERY track regardless of whether it's doing anything other than being a fader/pan control.
How's everyone else setting up their sessions? Any brilliant revelations? Any problems overcome in clever ways?
