On a non-facetious note, this just simply has to be an error or Uli is playing an elaborate joke. No one, and I mean NO one, would pay that much money for a Midas (Behringer) preamp.
For that matter no one would pay that kind of money for ANY preamp, except for maybe a vintage Neve or some other unobtanium sort of deal. But a Midas? No way. They would sell literally zero units at that price.

Not a bad guerrilla marketing play— get people talking about your Hyundai-in-a-Bentley wrapper based on the most exaggerated price point ever, then reveal that, oops, these are actually $199 (or whatever).
Of course, I'm very much anti-conspiracy theory as a general rule, just shootin' the breeze here.

Yes, sounds crazy- but it's the only thing that makes sense. Look at us, we're on page 2 chatting about it.

Naah, Uli has already mentioned the price. "Midas just launched what the team believes is the world's best microphone preamplifier - the Midas 501. It is John's best work ever, however the preamp also comes at a steep price of US$ 10,000 as John requested to use the very best and most stringently selected components."

Ok, I got the 2018 price sheet. The List price is $14,999 I am fucking speechless Is it VPR Compliant? Seriously though it's made in china, has really cheap looking knobs and while I have no problem with 500 series units I would never purchase any piece of gear even a fraction as expensive without a bespoke PSU look at GLM, Pueblo, NPNG, etc. VPR, "Very Pricey Rouse"....

Marketing genius at work here. Now guitar center can tell everyone "this $200 Midas thingy has 8 preamps worth $80000!" Well that has to be the plan I think... if the sales crew were that clued in. They'll probably just stick to "Built in leprechauns!"

But when you toggle the Warm switch it performs fellatio (on the website they call it Performance Mode, no kidding!). It's a great feature and one not found on any other 500 series preamp and worth every penny in help to breaking up those long, tedious mixing sessions where you need to take a periodic pause from working. I was a Beta tester, and let me tell you, it was beta than a coffee break and a stretch.

It's turns out that this thing is actually made of gold. No joke. Gold plate. You can get a women's shaver with a gold plated head on it for about $20 on late night TV. How much could those "4 gold plated rings" possibly be worth?
Not much. You can't even sell gold plated jewelty to a scrapper.

I heard they were 24 karat solid gold, and that it (the gold) makes the impedance matching perfect with any microphone. The guy at GC told me so!!!!!

I still think it's just a publicity stunt to draw attention to their $250 model 502 preamp.

Why do you think Ulli bought Midas in the first place?
