As far as I know, the SA67 has a Heiserman capsule and premium parts and tube, so how much different would the Heiserman 67 be?
That's off topic, so I'll say I heard of people preferring the earlier version of the SSL compressor. Which version are the Audio Scape and Stam emulating?

I mean you could carry that viewpoint - that somehow your punishing Stam by not purchasing his mic. And that he deserves it - and never deserves your business. Sure - that’s completely your right - trust me WE GET It. However, I really like the “idea” behind what Josh is doing and would rather go the route you would go with anyone you want to see succeed - and realize that punishing them unendingly is not the answer. Perhaps it’s a generational thing - but ordering from some guy in a foreign country who hand makes some of the best vintage clones for insanely low prices - and having this super weird journey - is actually pretty rad. So is ordering from Chris who is doing something similar here in the states with excellent customer service. But back to your earlier point- since I’ve already had the audisoscape ssl for months and have an SA67 shipping any day - does that mean that I win?

Alrighty - Drums. About 4 db reduction avg, up to 7db on the needle anyways. Ratio 2, attack 10ms, rel .3s. No side chain HPF. To me theres more goo/tone/the UAD thing I hear in several of their plugins, and the hardware is less grabby sounding at the same reductions. A little more presence and clarity, openness, size etc.

I feel like the “thing” the hardware does - simply just doesn’t exist the same for me in software. Something to do with the way it brings out the mids/ tucks everything into its space.

Not "could," DO ...I do carry that viewpoint but I said nothing about punishment. I said I choose not to reward bad behavior. If you want me to provide a list with detailed reasons he does not deserve my business, I'll be happy to do so but it won't be anything you haven't from me and some others here. As for you liking what Stam is doing, that's certainly your prerogative. The comment about this being a "generational thing" is a non-sequitur. It's a reach. I have no issue with the country of Chile ...at least none now that Pinochet is dead and the army is no longer kidnapping infants from the poor. Is expecting excellent customer service a "generational thing?" I have no idea what generation you're in, but has your generation decided that excellent customer service is unimportant and disposable? I'm not sure how you "win" at this but I'm pretty sure having a company promise you a piece of gear in three months and still not delivering it nine months later isn't winning ...or in more than two years as in the case of at least one person here. I'm pretty sure that swallowing the lies of a business owner who has no respect for his customers isn't winning. Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion and I'm sure Josh appreciates the reacharound.

The hardware really makes that snare crack and the bass sound a bit more full. It controls the transients without murdering them. Me likey.

Hardware in both cases, by a good bit.
I like that OH sound. What mic and where? And what snare drum?

It’s like cheating. Eq alone cant do it as with any mic. As I recall it was about head height, five or six feet above the kit and in front of it, a little bit angled down about 45° towards the snare drum. Those Coles are kind of fragile and with the reribbon fee of 400 bucks, I am very careful with it. It doesn’t go with me to other studios or get loaned out for sure. The snare drum is a pork pie big black brass. It’s a black beauty copy more or less. I can’t remember which heads are on it but I think they are Remo ambassadors. I used the Benny Grebb trick I learned from Ronan Chris Murphy. I took an extra head and put it on the batter head upside down and it dropped the drum tone into fat 70s territory.

Thanks for the links, Hardware in both. I probably missed this earlier in the thread somewhere, but is the UAD SSL G Comp the mk1 version or mk2 ?

Honestly, I never owned the Mk1. I only bought it after MkII was a thing. Do you have UAD 2? I would just demo it and do a side by side. I think as with all UAD 2 mkII upgrades, there is a good bit of difference there.

I'm getting sorely tempted to order one of these. You gotta do it, man. It's calling your name. Can you hear it: "Raaaaaaaaaaaagan..." "Raaaaaaaaaaaagan..." "It's meeeeeeeeeeee again..." "Audio-Scaaaaaaaaaaaaaaape..." Even if you continue to decide you're not a 2-bus compression man, you'd love it on drum bus, I believe.

I've always gravitated towards the SSL comp, hardware and software. Just sounds right to me.

Got the AS bus comp today and fired it up for a brief run. Sounds really great. Does this nice thing to the width, giving wide elements their own cozy pockets out there to exist in. And of course just the general sort of leathery, punchy glue that you'd expect from this circuit.
Looking forward to getting to know it more but first mess around had me grinning.
