I jumped on the Tascam RA1000HD when it came out, and used it for a couple of albums... then like a lazy sod, I went back to mixing back to PT. There's no question it seems more pro to use an external deck and DSD should be the accepted standard by now. JMHO YMMV

I have a pair of Tascam UH-7000 interfaces that I think sound excellent. I keep one in the home rig and one in my office. I imagine that their standalone unit sounds great too.

A friend of mine really loves this machine in DSD. I haven't tried it but I am really really fixated on DSD recording

IME, & tests w the da3000, pcm capture (via b2) can sound slightly less congested, or pinched w dense material than daw capture. Dsd I tend not to choose for more rock stuff but could see it being beneficial to material where low end energy is less the focus than clarity is.
Going from tape to dsd can be a real help. Still experimenting w it but a capable & handy tool to have for sure.. That said, if I by chance got a mix back to daw that was really good, I’d be fine with not worrying about turning the da3000 on & remixing.

I'm also considering a DA3000 this year.
Big praise for the UH-7000 from me as well, so I know it's probably going to sound good.

It's a nice machine, though a bit complicated for me to find my way around it. I have only used it with CDRs with good results, though I am looking forward to using it more with the other higher-resolution formats. It works quite well with analog inputs off the board, but shines digitally being fed from my Universal Audio 2192.

I use the DA-3000 for final mixdown OTB. I find it produces the best sounding files. I haven't tried recording to DSD yet, as I haven't figured out how, but I play DSD files through it and they sound amazing.
