I would think that each channel should be set at the same spot for unity gain...?

My modules are like 4 different versions: I have 3 original, and 3 sets of slightly different mods, so there is some natural variation or maybe it is teh gain rotary themselves, but when I compare output signal to input signal on the symph metres there are differences
so I thought might as well get as close to unity as I can ?

"so I thought might as well get as close to unity as I can ?" Yes. Doesn't matter if they are modded or you're using another console in addition or a 500 EQ. All should pass unity when "flat". That way you can switch between modules / consoles / outboard and it will come back in at the same volume - allowing you to judge any differences.

Wiz’s method above achieves unity gain. I just need to mark each knob or decide to only use the delta for mixing (ob pres for pres) and set and forget gain x channel ? It only takes a few seconds to reset if you have moved the gain knob. Just whack the test oscillator plug in before the io plugin on the channel. cheers Wiz
