Dear RGOs.
Sometimes I love the sound of Speaker-Breakup but I cant do it at home without having some trouble with my GF and neighobours.
Is there a speaker that breaks up very early?

Holmes Well, yes and no. If you hit the local junk shops and flea markets you can find low powered 12" speakers from the '50s that were used for voice announcement PA applications in places like schools, etc. Very often these will be perfectly suited for low volume guitar speakers. You do need to be careful with them, because such speakers that break up in a pleasing way at low volumes are often quite easy to blow if you're not careful, especially since the glue may have crystallized over time. OTOH they're usually not very expensive. |

Echoing johneppstein's comment, I've had to resort to ancient hi-fi console speakers to get several old single 6V6 or dual 6V6 amps sounding right after the original speaker went. Nothing new did it.

Celestion Alnico Blue is about the best Of what's available now. I was thinking more along the lines of 5 watt RCAs, etc. I had a really great one, but blew it. Still have the frame, may do a little surgery and see if the rattle can be fixed. |
