in the picture of the WARM guts, it shows 2 transformers on the side, and then the two square ones on the bottom. Are those on the bottom the output transformers? Is that gut shot showing the 2 channel + EQ box?

Anyone else read the info about warm working with carnhill to recreate the original transformer? So then this would be a new carnhill design

The lack of line in Transformer is a bit of concern, but do any of the 500 series Neve clones have a Transformer on the line input? AML does.

Anyone else read the info about warm working with carnhill to recreate the original transformer? So then this would be a new carnhill design Several clone manufacturers along with AMS Neve all make similar claims. AMS Neve say the current crop of 'off the shelf' Carnhill transformers are not the same as the original Marinair and St Ives transformers used in the early Neve gear. AMS Neve say that they worked with Carnhill to produce custom transformers that match the original Neve's and they are exclusive to AMS Neve products. But then Heritage Audio also claim they have worked with another UK based transformer maker (OEP) to produce custom transformers that more closely match the original Marinair and St Ives iron than the versions Carnhill were producing. Now you have Warm Audio saying the same thing. So Carnhill (and OEP) are producing several types of transformers that are supposed to be replicas of the orginal Neves's for several different manufacturers that are all claiming to use exclusive custom built transformers based upon the same original! So which 'authentic' clone is the most authentic?

what do we win if we own the one that is most authentic?

what do we win if we own the one that is most authentic? A pair of these with authentic Marinair and St Ives transformers! No fake shit here!! Just kidding!

Carnhill owns OEP. So, one might say they are all carnhills. Or not.
One thing is for sure. None of them are Marinair's or St. Ives.

Why do the eq models have xlr on the front?

Why do the eq models have xlr on the front? I was thinking the same thing. For me this might work out well. I really only need a single preamp that I swap from Bass DI to acoustic or vocal mic and having the XLR input on the front kinda makes sense. Anyone with a legit tracking setup may not like this.

"So which 'authentic' clone is the most authentic?" Authentic to what ? The design, the parts build, the dimensions, the sound: all those statements could be true and all also subjective. We can speculate for forever but none of us have had this unit in our studios or can actually say what it does or doesn't sound like. For me, I am keeping it simple, am looking for a neve sound, 2 pres for stereo, if needed and the eq with its different points is bonus.

Maybe Warm will release these in 500 series.
I would definitely buy a pair of 1084 eqs in the 500 series.

It looks to me, and I hope I'm right, that there are XLR (mic) inputs on both the front and back panel. (Line in on TRS in the back.) The Phoenix DRS pres are setup like this, I guess for flexibility. I have an Aphex 107 in the rack here and the XLRs are front panel only, which makes it the odd man out in my wiring scheme, and kind of annoying. (But it was $20, plus soldering time and the cost of a new pot.)

I thought the Sowter transformers in stam ‘s 73 sound fantastic. Super natural on top without sounding 2 dimensional.

pics on sweetwater today and yes the back has xlr, trs and trs inserts.
I emailed Bryce and asked where the insets were taking and returning the signal from/to, wondered if it is post pre ?

Ok. Dumb question- but I thought the line input ran through the input transformer?

I have always really appreciated each of my warm products. The new wa-73 pre is a bit of a dilemma ? I would like the WA2-73 (2 pre/eq ), but I have a kush electra now. And I am also trying to afford some new monitors ( Focal shape 6.5 or the 3 way dyns like Ragan) , so maybe will get the dual channel pre no eq to save a few bucks. Bryce has shared with me some info about the work they put into getting the Transformers right, so I have been looking forward to getting my hands on this pre. I have always had a great post sales experience with Warm stuff too so I bet I will be happy either way, but you can only stretch a budget so far around Christmas

Hey stam - I’m gonna start another thread about the new trans and move your post over there. I’m the one that @‘d you - so I know you were just responding - but probably need to separate competitors into different threads. No conspiracies and no one complained - just trying to be respectful!

Why do the eq models have xlr on the front? Probably because it's a pre + EQ ! Why would they use model numbers that make sense ?

I cannot share the background on this now, here, but perhaps sometime in the future; things are sometimes not as they seem ). The current warm release was supposed to be January but got leaked: shit happens.

So if somebody buys the Warm with EQ I'ld love to see if we could put it up against my Heritage!

Ok. Dumb question- but I thought the line input ran through the input transformer? I'm wondering about this myself. I see some of y'all stating that there isn't a line input transformer. Are you trying to point out that there isn't a separate (third) transformer or simply that the line input doesn't have a way of running through the lone input transformer? There are plenty of preamps that have a selector switch to allow the line level input to be selected to go through the input transformer. Does this new Warm unit, or the Heritage, not allow this? That's a bummer if you can't.
