I found a deal on the new faderport 8 so wet with it and as said above really like the tactile ,transport and session control. I also got a softube console 1 and frankly find I use that more ( plug control and mixing) and often still grab the mouse instead of the FP8.

I'd be curious to hear any direct comparisons of Faderport 8 vs. Behringer X-Touch.
I'm just kicking things off with a single Faderport original, really turned on by touch controls all of the sudden. Mousing 100% kind of sucks for me, it creates a 10% fatigue on top of anything I am doing. The Faderport takes some of the pressure off, and is also faster. (For me.)

I ordered one. Should be arriving next week. I liked the demos of the X-touch more than the Faderport so figured I'll start there. Individual channel knobs and the layout of the transport were also a factor. Going to give it a spin and see how we get along.
On the other end of the $pectrum the SSL Nucleus 1 is selling for half off retail as used. Probably because version 2 is out now. This controller already has 16 faders, individual channel knobs, 2 super-analog preamps and depending on your OS can also be a USB interface and monitor section.

Got this puppy yesterday. First impressions are good. Easy to set up. Build is decent. Feels good. I opened an older session in Reaper and found it responded well to most actions. Faders, panning, transport and zoom functions are sweet. Quick mutes and solos without grabbing the mouse are also awesome. Automation writing was smooth without ever touching the mouse. Select track, enable write mode and hit record. Action! Could not get the send function to operate but probably just needs more learning on my end. I've been using the X-Desk for almost 2 years and frankly it didn't feel much different. Except I wont have to take all the notes and photos for recall.

Congrats john . There are many things to love about it, but there is one aspect of it that is problematic. When I use it to record myself, there's fader noise from any automated tracks that are in the active group and it's considerable if you have large sweeps, which I often do. If there was a "Disable Fader Automation" button on the thing, all would be right in the world. One solution is to move the track you're recording on away from any tracks that have fader movement (even if you have to create them). The other is to Hide the tracks that have fader automation. Both solutions are a PITA, but unfortunately it's necessary. Still love my X-Touch.

I wonder if it can be fixed in future firmware.

Yeah, It's usually not a problem because I hold off on automation too, but say I decide to go back and redo a vocal. Well, I'll normally have it next to the original track for reference and to A/B, etc. Disabling automation at the DAW could work, but then you lose the ability to easily reference. It also occurs to me that another solution is to print automated tracks, but depending on how complex the mix is, that isn't always a viable solution. Hey, at least there are workarounds.
