Has anyone figured out a painless way to render external hardware using Logic? I have a couple of ways of doing it but they are very involved. I need to create Aux sends, deactivate some plugins, duplicate track settings, etc. Or solo the track, bounce it and import it. Ideally, I'd love to do all tracks at once... By the way, I read somewhere that the Logic devs complain that not enough people use the "Send Feedback" feature, so here it is: www.apple.com/feedback/logic-pro.htmlI did send a request recently that got implemented, maybe it was a fluke but you never know. In case you're wondering, I asked that duplicating a mono plugin into a stereo track didn't turn the stereo track into mono (and related behaviors with stereo/mono and plugins).

I do it by instantiating the IO plug on a track then sending that tracks output to a buss. Then I create a new track and set its input to that buss.
I have a template with everything created.

Sorry for being slow but what exactly are you doing ? I use logic and the I/O plug to send/receive to/from my OB and just print that. The point of the buss is if you want to send multiple tracks to the same OB ? Maybe I need more coffee ?

I use several hardware inserts and I would like to find a simple way to print the tracks and use the hardware for something else, all in one pass. From what I've been reading, there's no simple way. You need to send the tracks to an Aux, record the processed tracks, hide the original tracks, etc.

What happens if you instantiate the utility io plug send to ob then have the return go to a new Audio track that you set to record?
Why wouldn’t it just record the post outboard signal?

The I/O plug ins a true Hardware Plug In....

You mean you can't insert hardware wherever in the chain you want? And if you render that track, it doesn't just do it in real time (because there's hardware involved)....but, otherwise act like any other insert?

I thought the HW is in what ever place you put it: top to bottom slots ?

Since posting the thread I've learned that nothing has changed in Logic in the past few months, and no one has discovered anything new. My workflow, sending to a bus and recording that, is the most established one, because it doesn't create any sync problems. I've asked the Logic developers to implement a "realtime bounce in place" for tracks that have the I/O plugin. If you use Logic and I/O inserts, I think you should too --> www.apple.com/feedback/logic-pro.htmlFor reference, and suggestions, here's how I render a hardware insert: 1. Create a pre-fader bus send in the track. 2. Deactivate any plugins placed _after_ the I/O plugin. 3. Create a new track with duplicate settings. Disable all plugins on this track. 4. Set the input of the new track to the bus created in step 1, and hit Record. 5. On the new track, enable only the plugins that are placed _after_ the I/O plugin. 6. Deactivate and hide the original track. It's still there in case I need to trace back my steps. I could do all tracks with I/O inserts in one pass using this workflow.

Thx, you are doing all this as you are running out of computer dps or OB or both ?

I only need to do this if I want to reuse a piece of hardware for another track. I try not to!

Yeah. This is exactly how I do it too. Bad news is that's exactly how I do it. Good news is at least there hasn't been a quicker way this entire time.
I do this for session recall's mainly.

Logic has had Bounce in Place for a long time, but for some frustrating reason there's no real time option, if an I/O plugin is on the track it's automatically bypassed and the bounce is done faster than real time.
Logic 9's documentation actually stated that Bouce in Place would be done in real time if an I/O plugin was inserted on the track to capture the hardware, but it never worked and it seems like they never addressed it. That plus Logic 9 forcing all tracks that had the I/O plugin inserted onto one CPU core are the main reasons I left Logic for mixing.
Pro Tools, Cubendo, and Studio One all have easy one click ways to render a track in real time.. A really nice feature if you do a lot of printing through hardware.
