Made the linked file not huge so Dropbox's preview works. But, wanted to point out, since I wasn't verbose earlier--you wanted to know what drum sample tech would sound like on your stuff...was the reason I posted publicly. I wouldn't use SD3, while it's sitting right here on the machine, because it's been terrible for the purpose/methods I employ to beef up "home studio" drums. I would hope you trust my ears on that...I can run the same thing with SD3, but it will sound not natural. Promise. There's no reason for a Logic user to use the Tracker element in SD3, IMO. That's for people using a DAW that doesn't have built in capabilities for drum "replacement". And even there--while I mixed this in 32c, I did the sample augmentation in Cubase first. cubase because I'm back on the Windows machine--I've done it for clients in LPX may times. I never really noticed one being particularly better or worse at it. Functionally, they seem to end up with the same'ish results. Hi popmannthanks for doing that. Again, interesting to hear someone else's take on it. Panned from drummers perspective, opposite to me 8). I am assuming thats BFD doing kick snare and toms? if so, sounds pretty natural, are they augmenting or replacing? Does a good job of that sort of thing for sure. Only thing I felt I wanted was to pull down 180 ish which was a dB or 3 a bit hot here... thanks again Jamie, very cool of you. Glad you enjoyed the tune. I wish more people would post...or at least tell me they are downloading and using it, otherwise it seems a bit pointless and wankerish for me to keep putting these up for people...as I know there was a time I would have killed to get tracks to mix on. cheers Wiz

I never replace drums-it messes up the feel, which I like to leave solely in the hands of the drummer to mess up. ...I add mics with similar sounding samples. And it's just doing the kick/snare. Basically, it's adding a snare bottom mic, which isn't important overall, compared to the kick out mic and the room mics I add. If I were doing it "for reals", I'd have done the toms in the room mics....but, it was a quick thing. This is all quicker AND better than trying to generate digital ambience via reverb. I was really anticipating SD3 being amazing for this, since it has like 12 room mics of different makes and distances--and Massenberg put a subkick on all the kicks as well as the typical 47 outside...but, it's all in a REALLY big room. I've just gotten nothing from it I liked. I even tried some Logic specific ways to tighten up the sample timing...but, nope...it always just sounded not natural. Not connected.

Yeah from what I’ve heard, I don’t love the rooms in the stock SD3 either. For the same reason. Too huge. I’m using the Indiependent SDX a lot more. Tracked here in Seattle at Avast! Really nice medium sized room.

I love hearing people's mixes and taking a crack myself. I've just been swamped for the past couple months and haven't even fired up a DAW in weeks. I'm hoping to take a spin next week.

Hey wiz. I took a pass at Tiny Moments on the V Drums with SD3. Had to do it kind of quickly but it's at least something to check out. One note: I was just playing to a click at 116 BPM. There are times where your instrumentation follows the push and pull of your drum performance (which is as it should be!) and so my playing isn't a dead lock to your guitars/bass/vocals. Aside from doing a bunch of takes, there's no way around it with a sparse arrangement like this. Anyway. Love the track. Here's what a pretty quick pass with the V Drums triggering SD3 sounds like here. drive.google.com/file/d/15VDqlOr9bKhv70cFu8OxyA2dDSfgbzx_/view?usp=sharingP.S. I brought up the Coles room mics at the end just so you could hear how cool they sound. I felt like the song wanted really dry drums but just faded in the Coles mics at the end for shits and giggles.

Hi raganthanks so much for taking the time to do that... appreciate it. If you havent edited the midi velocities, then I am super impressed in how well SD3 integrates with E drums... thats way better than when I did an album remotely with SD2 and a drummer with a TD50 kit in 2007/2008. I was particularly impressed with the hats and cymbals... Really works quite well, and I think if you built a track around it (The sound of the drums) it would sound great. Even if you had to do 15 mins of tweaking its still way ahead of what it used to be. Nice stuff. The only issue I would have , is wanting to have access to the room sound, so I could incorporate it on other instruments, e.g. a impulse response of that space, would be great if they (Toontrack) included that. cheers and thanks again Wiz

Would be really cool. I didn't do any editing of the MIDI. I've been getting used to the V Drum world the last few weeks and gaining an understanding of how things trigger so I think it just kinda shows up in the way I play the V Drum kit. I too am super impressed with how well it all works out. The performance transfers as you'd want and then it's up to you to tailor just how you want it to sound. Amazing, really.

Thanks for posting this Wiz, I've been playing around with this for a while. Really nice song, the mixes people have posted really nice. Just for fun I decided to play with panning and space. I was imagining a private performance in a cabin, maybe for a producer? lol... originally had vocals and drums hard panned but decided to bring them more inward. So that's why panning might seem weird. CAREFUL- I don't have a subwoofer, sorry if I screwed up balance also I'm trying out SWAN for streaming. So far so pretty nice. player02.swan.audio/downloads/bb19f12bd4832f78362e0d6d5dec7771/I'll probably experiment with it some more.
