But that Chandler Redd Mic thread on GS is exactly why I started RGO. Hey - it’s hard to moderate...and I just think there are soooo many voices over there it’s nearly impossible. But jeesh.

One guy has 157 posts in that one thread. What working musician or engineer has that much time to go on an internet forum regarding one product?

I dunno, but last time I checked there were some very heavy hitters on that thread - FYI. Maybe they're just excited about the REDD mic..... PS - mr. 157 has had multiple gold and platinum records sold, along with at least 2 top ten albums. Not too shabby. He must have carved some time out for contributing. I know he's passionate about that mic. In my experience he's super knowledgeable about gear and mics, has great ears, has a ton of experience, and is a genuine likable chap. Although like many successful people who have proven themselves in the marketplace, perhaps he doesn't always tolerate BS from inexperienced "experts" who prove themselves rude and obnoxious.

one of the issues about it that bothers me, (obviously, they have a lot of problems there) Regarding the Discussion, is that -- Instead of being about what you can do with that specific product, (being discussed) or its technical details, and the work you can do with it, or not do with it, as a result, the toptic falls completely out for "How it compares" with ALL other things at similar and different prices. You have to compare it, sure, but it seems to me people are trying to find a consensus of "Correct" there, when, really, there isnt any to be found for the Masses.

What I miss and what made me come to rgo was the days when an inexperienced up-and-coming engineer could ask some technical questions about a piece of gear and get a response from you some pretty respected and very knowledgeable folks. Every once and awhile some drama would flare up regarding someones knowledge, experience, and opinion of a product or a place or fellow engineer and it was funny. But it seems nowadays that's all it is with various weekend warrior home studio owners asking the obligatory: 'which should I get xxx or xxx for my untreated room in my basement?'

Yeah I found myself arguing with misinformation for so long, and then just sort of clocking out. Begineer engineers in the Newbie thread who think their voice sounds thin are being told "Try using a multiband, I use them for making my beats PHAT" and there's no real respect or interest in getting the fundamentals right.

the thread has almost 50k looks. bound to be a bit of drama. I've been reading it since it started and I remember laughing out loud at that page. all in context it was kinda funny. there's a lot of good input regarding the mic in that thread in my opinion. Paul's being some of the most trustworthy given his history and track record for taste in gear. especially for anyone who is realistically considering purchasing the microphone. I like both sites

Yeah, there has always been this concept of the one right piece of gear, and more and more guys want to have that one best piece. They don't understand these are tools and it's about the right piece in the eyes of a craftsman. I would hear the reply "well I only need one router to build ..." . My reply "well I have 3 and if you ever watch New Yankee Workshop Norm has a Drawer full!"
GS was not ruined by the newbies, it was ruined by guy who has experience and thinks he knows more than he knows, who like my kid just has to come off like he isn't as smart as he thinks he is ! The contradiction is those are the same people The Giant GS needs, just like GC! Ain't the world of big business fun!

Have you seen it recently? PG and SS have been banging heads and it's reached a kinda creepy phase IMO. It comes across to me that if you don't embrace a certain company's product (not referring to the Redd mic itself here) or dare to speak of it negatively that you could find yourself almost stalked by the CEO until you admit the error of your ways and capitulate. Bizarre.

So what should I buy for my untreated basement so i can have a professional sound. I am realy good I have practiced like 10 minutes last thursday and my mum says I am a rock star. The sound I am looking for is like guitar hero's track 2044 which i got a high score on. I would like to use the guitar hero guitar as my other guitar has only 3 strings left and it hurts my fingers. I don't need mixing advice as I am sure I will be the worlds best mixer. I once mixed 3 songs on my iphone I just need a better free app. My budget is $3.95 as I have to buy a new shirt and hat so I can look the part.
