This will be interesting to you guys and gals, who send/receive audio files online between people. It is a free online interface application that allows for easy preview and download of your audio files. Upon sending your audio files, it lets you choose if it will be a download only, download+player, or player only. It was very fast and easy to use the first time I tried it. Instead of using drop box or we-transfer, this seems more appropriate to me! www.swan.audio

My god do I hate wetransfer. I get angry just thinking about those disappearing links and randomly named zip files. Really? I despise Dropbox...love wetransfer. Yes, really. But I should clarify, I'm talking about being the recipient. It is a horrible user experience for me because I might get 10 of them in one week, reflexively download on receipt because of the vanishing links, and then find 10 alphanumerically named, multi gigabyte zip files in my DL folder a week later when the respective project is actually on my schedule. At that point there is a complete disconnect between project/sender and the file. So then, I can only figure out what's what by unzipping them which is time consuming and drives me nuts. I assume it is because the sender did not understand or complete the upload form, but it really sucks. One in ten of these transfers might have an actual file name, at which point my only beef with wetransfer is the disappearing links— people forward them to me all the time on projects and they're already expired. Often the forwarder is on another continent and we lose a day trying to get the file replaced. None of this happens to me with Google Drive, Dropbox, or Hightail. But I'm not saying those products are perfect.

But I'm not saying those products are perfect. Seems like a problem on the sender’s side not having their files named properly. You can also choose to leave the files up for as long as you want them to stay up. If you’re dealing with people that can’t name their files properly, I’d just download it immediately, and then change the folder name to keep things organized. I usually will send clients a form for them to read dictating exactly how to export and name files so i don’t have headaches like that. I agree it can be a huge pain in the ass. And don’t get me started on non stereo “stereo” files... ugh I love wetransfer. Can’t stand how Dropbox wants to take over your computer.

I don't use that feature of dropbox, totally agree that it is an overreach and syncing can swamp your local drive with things you only really need in the cloud. And yes, 90% of the problem is that the people sending the files are incompetent or just don't care— not sure which. If wetransfer made the file name a required field a lot of this would be corrected. For reasons that aren't worth getting into, these are not my direct clients. I am something of a subcontractor. There is little room for dialog and best practices in this specific instance. People who work with me directly are shepherded through the process and rarely have a glitch with file transfer.

Dropbox isn't any fun. Wesendit has worked flawlessly for me, and I name my files, duh..

Dropbox isn't any fun. Wetransfer has worked flawlessly for me, and I name my files, duh.. The files have names initially. Wetransfer then overwrites the name with gibberish when it creates a zip. It might be that there was no master folder, and it is zipping a collection of folders when this happens. But then why not use the name of the first folder as a default? But it's dumb. Really, really dumb. Attachments:

Had a guy turn around and post it on his site before it was done and paid.

I love Dropbox..... I have a shared folders with producers and songwriters and I've never had any issues. If I'm editing a project I'll export directly into it so while it's exporting it's also uploading. Mixes I create a master folder with sub folders of the mix, TV tracks and quick ref .mp3's. Then I just toss that master folder into our shared folder and I'm done. There is also a "Trash" folder usually in there so when either one of us is done we put it in that folder, let's one or the other know it's cool to wipe off. My rig computer stays running all the time in case someone decides to upload something to me.
For clients outside the usual's I'll use the we transfer thing sometimes, but most people have dropbox so I'll just do the same thing with them. I think Dropbox works great if you've got a system worked out, especially if you're working with regulars. I have on occasion set up a shared folder with an outside client who accidentally saved some things in our folder he must had meant to go to a private folder, talk about freaking awkward.
I think Dropbox lost themselves a lot of clients recently when they put up the whole "try business for free" and folks forgot to cancel and to check that they defaulted to billing yearly.

I have a buddy who'se in charge of production of a big label and he's been beta testing swan. Absolutely loves it. The fact that it's very good audio (created by a mastering engineer) and workable on tablets, smartphones and computers is a plus along with delivery and play options. He's able to OK mixes in the car while driving, or away from his studio, etc.. It's been a huge asset for him.
I haven't tried it yet, but I will. I'm not super fond of wetransfer, but I'm OK with it. I prefer my FTP site for major transfers. Will check swan out soon.

Thanks for chiming in fellas, I have many of the same exact feelings. I really wanted to simply this task and use less things. to Preview Files with higher Quality, more easily. Work smarter, not harder!

oops, I wrote wetransfer, but meant wesendit. Wesendit is way easier to use than dropbox and works beautifully.
