Both our WA76's have developed very noisy pots. I've just tracked a vocal and am getting distortion on some sections. The pre and convertors aren't clipping but I'm still getting some occasional fuzz. Does anyone know if any audio passes through the pots on these things?

The input pot on one of my WA76s is scratchy. I've not heard distortion when I'm not turning it though.

If I have to I'll replace them with some decent sealed pots.

Scratch is usually caused by DC across pots (like the api312 is apt to do) or it's due to oxidation on the track (usually carbon). Use the lube and turn the pots back and forth until the crackle disappears.

Scratches on 1176 input pots are very common if you study DIY build problems, and it's usually a poor ground connection. Same with any sort of 'T' attenuator, you see that report all the time with people using CAPI/Hairball 'T's. Tightening up the connections fixes it, it's not the pots themselves.

Same here. The next I am out and about will buy some contact cleaner. I also have a Tonebeast with the same itchy scratchies.

Hell I replaced a couple of relays on the BMW X5 and sprayed a bunch of Caig! Unfortunately the tailgate release still won't work really fucks up moving but the 13 year old is flexible enough to use the emergency manual release!

Whichever. So many things are on sub-boards with push-on connections, which are the devil's work. I base that statement on years of repair tech observations. They make mechanized assembly easier/cheaper, and they make tech disassembly easier, but many of the failures common in equipment are the fault of those non-soldered connections going funky over time.

Ah yes they have also reduced the tech from trouble shooter to plug and play board swapper.
