I just wish he would prorated discount his subscription service to accommodate slate plugs you already own. Silly example but you could own all his plugs and relab and he wants you to pay the same monthly price as someone who owns none? I like the new bomber plug alot but not $100 likes I agree with this 100% I own VCC, VTM, VBC, VMR, FGX, so my $200 subscription gets me Bomber (meh) and the Custom EQ (more meh). Honestly I'm not that blown away by VMR either way, it sounds amazing but it doesn't sound better than the Waves CLA comps to my ears. And none come close to the MJUC Klanghelm plugin which costs $30 bucks.

Comparing an 1176 to a Vari Mu doesn't tell you much about the inherent "quality" of either because they're so drastically different. As for the MJUC, I haven't found my groove with it. It absolutely does sound good, I just don't find myself using it that much. Same with the other Klanghelm stuff I've got. Not sure why that is. I need to mess with them more. Tony (Klanghelm) doesn't do straight emulations though anyway. His plugins are always super tweak able hybrids of all kinds of stuff, where Slate's bread and butter has always been "here is the exact sound of this piece of gear".

I've enjoyed the slate plugs. Not totally sure I'll go for the subscription though because I already own all the slate plugs that I geunuinely use. Ok, well VCC. I thought the eq's were good, and I actually loved the two channel eq for its simplicity. Might miss that. I think the UAD 1176's are much better.

Listening to the examples, I don't think that a real U87 or 67 headbasket would pop as easily as the Slate mic's on "believe" and "what" (let alone a Josephson C715 or 716) and that the capsule distortion/sibilance on "just" would probably not be there at all on the same, definitely not on the Josephsons.
There is real utility to mic and capsule designs beyond tonal options because you want them to deliver predictable results on a day to day basis with different sources.

If you start with a condenser element, I can imagine that you might be able to slow it down or change it to sound like a dynamic or ribbon. I can't imagine "speeding up" a dynamic or ribbon to sound like a condenser - how do you account for transient response differences between a condenser diaphragm and a much heavier dynamic or ribbon element? There have always been boxes that claim to be game changers. They usually change something and if you like that something, there you are, however, the laws of physics still apply.

Well, he's selling the mic, so he has a constant there.

Hmm. Well a good start would definitely be to watch the video or look at the website or something like that.

The laws of physics notwithstanding.., when I go there, it says "not there."

His eyes in the video are like wandering orbs in a haunted house portrait which seem to follow you everywhere.
Maybe VMS is really powered by black magic and human souls.

Yeah I'm not crazy about what I'm hearing. That dude could just be sibilant though.

Honestly, the differences were more pronounced than I thought they would be. I thought the guy google drive guy sounded less sibilant than the video.

yeah, the narration is super sibs! I'm gonna check out the rest... edit; well, that doesn't sound like my U47..., and i don't have a 251, but i'm not impressed by the sounds period, is there an official demo by Slate that show this in action? that would be about as good as they could get it id think?

Interesting, I think it sounds very good. My biggest concern with this product is that it won't be supported long term, desktop preamp form factor is annoying and for it's price tag I can buy a Lauten Clarion and it's a mic that in 20 years I'll still be able to use it without a software update or any bullshit like that.
